Saturday 22nd Demonstration re: Bombing of Lebanon
P

Yes. I have been worrying more or less about exactly that & wondering if I am being a bit niave.
I want to do something to help my friend and I am so angry & fustrated at the lack of humanitarian response- that from a selfish pont of view, I think it would at least make me feel better. I don't normally get involved in these things. The last protest I went on was in 1999 against the CJB when I was about 19 and into my free parties and had many friends from traveler communites. I just feel as if I have to do 'something' you know?

Been asked before, but what "CH"unes are people listening to?
P

BTW puss-puss also likes The Killers. Somebody told me you had a boyfriend who looks like a puppy.

Strawbs- have you got Digweed's "choice" album from last year? Awesome.
Digweed is a real pick me up
I'm the only one & Sugar Daddy on that album are tunes from my mis-spent youth.

If there was an "agree strongly" box, I'd be ticking it Ed.
I have said here already that I believe I am protesting tomorrow against the neglect of the International Community for the people of Lebanon over the last 10 days, Blair's faliure to speak/ act and that the US are able to vito UN, where as any other country would be subject to all sorts of argy bargy / embargo /boycott etc.
Do you think the protest is a bad idea? I am not asking to provoke, geniunely wondering, am I doing the right thing according to my beliefs.

What exactly informs your views?
Because I’m sorry... but there is no real way to say this very nicely and I don't want to get into a slanging match, but you clearly are ill informed ( about this issue),
and it was a a bit of a 'green' thing to say that the people of Lebanon courted or actively encouraged what is happening.

Jeeez Golf-pro are you aware that the kidnap of the two Israeli soldiers was in response to the unlawful detention of 6 Lebanese prisoners in Israel? I think you should stop going on about the Lebanese precipitation & the media portraying a balanced view. The media are never neutral; they reflect the views of the institutions behind them.

Are you a Bushite btw?

Ed’s right, the Lebanese people are victims in this –which is all I’ve been saying, and as Kofi Annan said last night, the country is being torn apart.

Lebanon saw the largest protest in its history when the former leader was assassinated last year & the majority of people rallied to remove Syria from its occupation. The majority of the people (and that’s the innocent civilian victims) do not enthusiastically support terrorist activity and were nervous about Hezbollah’s occupation on the border – the general public in Lebanon view them by and large as rebel militia.

You haven't actually posted an opposing viewpoint.
I have asked you twice - whats the otherside of this & you haven't responded with a direct answer. I am desperate to know.

Israel has stated they will NOT attack Syria or Iran, but “leave that to the world community”. No golf-pro I am not prepared to be impartial or evenhanded. I am disgusted at my Government, Bush & the International community for it’s lack of response to the crisis of the Lebanese people.
I make no bones about my use of emotive language either. I am emotional about this.

Remember I began by simply placing some information as a thread without comment, which is there for those that want it.

400 Lebanese are dead, over 1000 wounded and a population of 50,0000 are displaced and afterwards –they have no infrastructure or homes to go to. What do you think will follow? The Lebanese won’t be able to pick up where they left off and go back to work on Monday; they will face poverty disease and more death.
Bush has given Israel a green light to carry on for with this for another week. Did you know Israel have hit civil defence posts and blown up Red Cross ambulances attending to the civilian wounded? How much do you estimate will be left of Lebanon and its people, after another 5 or 6 days of this? This is a systematic and deliberate effort at obliteration of a nation, ergo I call it an attempt at genocide.

No I don't, but I believe that many Lebanese civilians are innocent victims. Isreal has launched an out -and- out offensive in reponse to the kidnap of 2 soldiers & must be held accountable for the destruction for the 2nd time of a country and it's people. There will be nothing left of them if the airstrikes are allowed to continue for another week before anyone steps in.
Golf-pro - you didn't answer - what is the otherside of the argument to genocide?
The UK Government along with the rest of the international community must stop dancing to that scumbag Bush's whistle & I am going to march on Saturday for my friend and her family, for a cease fire and for an end to this craziness.

I was actually cut off from her on the phone on Mon. Although they were out of Beriut they were still in Lebanon. The family and another group have been forced to hide and on Monday they had no electricity or water. Food supplies are running out as obviously nothing can get in or out.
Golf Pro - please explain what is the otherside of this madness?
