Perhaps you have issues that need sorting (which is fine). But you are attacking an individual repeatedly, without any provocation whatsoever from her, in language that is often difficult to comprehend, and logic that is usually absent or difficult to grasp. Your interruption of this thread (yes, go back a couple of pages and see who was the person who interrupted the conversation with references to the previous thread) - your interruptions have been unfair, incomprehensible and frankly even juvenile.
Your comment on British born people is a little weird, not just (or at all) because it is politically problematic, but because your own capitalisation, grammar and general syntax and construction are all, well, unconventional.
This apart, your behaviour qualifies as harrassment. I and my fellow passengers encoutnered the physical versions of this in an unpleasant tube ride last evening from Shephard's Bush on the Central Line, and when the drunken louts began crossing all limits, I was, all of a sudden, reminded of your consistent attack and interruptions on this forum.
Rest assured, I shall not respond to you again, I only wrote because I wanted to support KB who has been a fantastic forum member and colleague.

I absolutely disagree with monkey. Intellectual pursuits involve the concept of formal and informal peer review. part of this isinstitutionalised as peer review and feedback, and the rest of it (the better part) survives as intellectual exchange. That's how ideas grow and connect. Apart from being careful about plagiarism (which in this case is not the issue as I understand) it is normal practice for academics to collect opinions on their work and warmly thank everyone in a note.
My supervisor has just thanked me (along with a very old scholar!) on her latest paper for my 'comments on an earlier version of the draft'. I have seen my sup acknowledge even 15 people for their comments on versions of the draft.
I do not think, the attitude of reading for 'free' and anything as instrumental works at least in my field (humanities and social science hybrid)
Oh wow!! I am sitting in the middle of a german village with nothing around me but woody hills and a magnolia tree in full bloom and reading this thread!!
KB - the guy's being stupid. Feel flattered and then try to ignore such childish behaviour. If i must say this, I was recently turned down by guy on whom I had a crush. Since two hours after then I made a conscious attempot to get things back to normal and we are now doing 500 collaborative things and being good friends! It wasnt even 120 minutes of unprofessioanlism or discomfort!
I think there might be two things about a certain poster:
1. They might be familiar with the name Cleverclogs. or
2. We need to have a forum troll from time to time.
:-) Ignore!!

Will read posts later at a workshop in Germany (!) and doing this! but had to respond.
Its made me 100 times more confident of my capacities, and 100 times more nervous and insecure about life.
100 times hapier about the world of opportunities that has opened out. 100 times more depressed about the so many other things it has messed up.
it has left me swinging from one end of the spectrum to another.
Hi all, but PG forum mods also,
Anybody knows when/where the Oxbridge Junior Research Fellowships are advertised? The colleges all advertise individually I see, but was wondering if there's a particular time/place to watch out for.
Thanks if anyone knows
Cheers, Bug
Hi y'all,
So, I am about to enter that process called analysis. It is punctuated over the next few months with snippets of releasing findings at conferences small and large and writing up for journal articles primarily, and not just chapters.
My data is more or less manageable. The main part is transcripts of qualitative interviews (about 45 mins each) with 60 children. The second part which involves an analysis of websites comes later, but never mind, my query is about the interviews.
So, I have got all the transcripts and audio files into NVIVO. These should give me two empirical chapters, the agenda for which is pretty much defined by my conceptual framework i.e. NB that mine is not an inductive/ethnographic project, but a rather theory led, pre-existing frameworks and concepts guided thesis. (not going into more details here…)
So, in all, I know what themes, sub themes, categories I wish to look for. I know the two very different ways in which the data needs to be analysed. For Ch 6 I analyse the whole data comparing the kids by age groups. In Ch 7 I analyse the whole data again, this time focusing on something different - let's say '4 different ways in which these kids do something'. As you see the first chapter involves a focus on age (so my sub headings will follow age groups), the second chapter involves a focus on ways in which they do something (where subheadings are these ways, and under each way, I have kids from all ages).
Ok, so what differences and similarities I am looking for across age are kind of pre decided by my theoretical priorities, but of course within these, there's lots of room for the data to throw up new stuff. For the chapter on ways/modes, there are four theory derived modes.
Any pointers on how to begin this task? I open NVIVO, look at my transcripts and shudder and go do something else.
I know some of you guys have huge projects (Sneaks. You have all my respect! And Wally too) … so can anyone doing analysis of qual interview transcripts give me some push/motivation/tips on getting going?
Xx

KC, thanks. I too felt exactly the same when I read your posts on the accountability thread (the one for secodn years...). ITs kind of why I kept away despite starting it, got a teensy bit scared, cos I dont do half as much in a day. you put in 10 hrs recently or something? I never ever can!
As for this particular post, uhm, I think I was trying to mirror Keenbean's calculations (KB spoke of reviews etc) so I too was thinking alous how KB's sup is calculating not entirely worngly despite sounding ambitious. I.e. its unusual but poss although not needed truly.
These are my two clarifications. I'm sure you're right in the way you interpreted my post/s and am sure many will agree :)
Best, bug.
