Tis almost 3 am, and I'm alive! :-(

Gosh Cobweb, little bit of an anal fixation? ;-)

Young cobweb here enjoys a bit of toilet humour from time to time, she has said before, on the 'Last One to Post on this Thread Wins' thread ;-)

Be relaxing in the living room of a big house in the country that I own.

Lack of daily progress - identifying the reasons
P

or sometimes, just a little trigger of something negative happening (by phone or email or ftf) and then coinciding with a bad day and CRASH.

No amount of pending work and nothing at all can pull one out of it.

Sorry to be cynical, but it's a miserable, miserable day.

The point being that a 2-figure sum spent on alcohol can easily obscure the 5-figures spent on education.

There is of course another point as well - that when a person has got into a spot of trouble, something that may happen to the best of us, it is of little use to make comments such as these, when clearly they appreciate these points and really just need solidarity of some sort.

A point similar to the one you (accurately) reminded me of on Jojo's thread by pointing out I shouldn't rub it in someone's face that I am very happy, when they are feeling low. i.e. you shouldn't point fingers at a person who is feeling low, or from earlier, a person who is admitting having an unproductive day...

I agree with you that some of your posts are honest, but you know what, many of us on here can have that said for them. *Kind/sympathetic* posts are not necessarily dishonest posts, and *honest* posts need not necessarily make the person you are responding to feel about *that* big. Perhaps there's something called kind as well as honest posts?

Cheers.

@EmmaB : don't worry about cleverclogs. They display a fast-shifting alteration in their posts on here, from very helpful/friendly to spiteful/hurtful or sometimes just a bit uncomfortable for the poster they are responding too. The first is visible on many threads where they gave good advice on a number of things, and the last on ones like these.

I love the way you (can) write DONE.

Today was a satisfying teaching day. A student came to me and said "i want to show you something that will make you proud." And showed me her distinction marks in an essay. Then she added "i listened to you, did what you siad , and managed to get a distinction".

I was quite speechless...

Wow Keepcalm!!

So I again went out with friends (this time five times the number than day before yesterday) for the evening and hence no work done. Plus bad time to do with health (arrgh)

teach today and I always prep last moment so that's today. Plans til Tuesday roughly:

1. to make the plan of the project lit rev (massive) to be done by 16th
2. to make a plan for submitting the article that has been waiting to be submitted. (coming tues)
3. Have just realised it's already time for yet another supervision(!) and hence to write three abstracts and a mini essay (for another journal, revieiwng a panel I organized and spoke at) to send all in on Saturday wich I realise is tomorrow.
4. submit said things, incouding journal article and
5. Rest.

And might I share a good news? Well, I submitted an 8000 word piece to a journal (good one) towards the latter part of the first year, (4 months ago), well, it will see the light of the day :-) and they've said it's really good and our only concern is the length but we are looking into it to see if that matters...

ah.

hmm as jojo has been such a prolific poster and been on here for a long time, maybe this is a wind up, or some kind of social experiment? PhDbug, don't you do research on forum use?

Sneaks, I could write pages on these things lol! 'online lurking' and such like is soooooo common! Although perhpas this may be different, but this does happen a lot.

Phdbug - its helps to make a distinction between real life and research. and like i said, just because what am going through doesn't make any sense to you, it doesn't invalidate the reality of it or how i feel about it. and yes, am very happy that i have options. and am not about to apologise about that. as for people not liking to work with me - again you're being very presumptous.

I did not say anything about people not wanting to work with you. It was someone else, in a different way.

So every person is being presumptuous?

And yes, I fully agree with you and have the same to say - "just because what am going through doesn't make any sense to you, it doesn't invalidate the reality of it or how i feel about it"

And what follows is - do not generalise based on individual anecdotes.

Yeah good one bugsy, someone is having a hard time and you rub it in their face how bloody happy you are!

You shut up and get lost. Honestly.

What on earth do you mean by this sentence on those who do not have an option but to stay here???????

Are you saying that one set of experiences shows reality more accurately than another set? So - 'Britain is a nasty country' according to your experiences and that can only be agreed with, but when contrasted with another set of experiences, from someone in a similar position which says 'britian is a lovely country' - this latter is invalidated and discouraged from being posted?

I know you are upset, but you are also a researcher for crying out loud!!!
