I received my wedding dress on Friday from ????? and it is everything I wanted in my dress.???????? have truly exceeded my expectation.

8-)

Am I the only one thinks:

A) PhD viva and weddings are slightly different occasions (albeit both having to do with commitments), and hence Glass's post is completely out of context

and more,

B) that SPAM is completely irritating

Cheers Glass, let's all go buy wedding clothes...

Hi all, and hi mods....

Just wondering if there's anything on the threads right now that qualifies as ads! Persistent pushing of a product, garbed with single sentence intros that are tailor made....urrrgh why does it irritate me?

Hmm. perhaps not worth a separate thread but just thinking aloud...

I'm a Dr now and it's a bit weird, very nice though!!

Oh dear God...(ref post below)...

Hi Rani, i've said this on another thread but this poster below is not trying to help YOU but is posting advertisements on many threads. Just thought you should know.

Forum meet (or first years forum meet?)
P

Is it completely mad to suggest a forum meet over the next few months?

(Alternatively a first years forum meet?)

Yes, i know how these threads become long windings excursions into indecision over time/venue etc etc..

but wondering if, as the academic year draws to a close, those who want to meet, and/or those who didnt make it to the last one (was there one?)...

just a thought...(up)

I think you should know that this post below has been posted on MANY threads as an advertising gimmick and not to help YOU in particular. People on other threads have noticed and commented on it, and this is very common.

Sorry to disappoint but have a look at some other threads (the one on quitting PhD and another one as well)

Hostility from uni staff :(

Hmmm.. I am the youngest in the group of PhDs in our dept (about 40 people across 5 yrs). I always consider myself a student. In fact when outside my sup has sometimes introduced me as her colleague and somehow it felt weird. The other day she intro-ed me as her new PhD student to an important person who's also wayyyy older than me, and explained what I'm researching, and I spoke too and I liked that perfectly well. I know I am a student for I am doing a degree and I am learning and I'm perfectly fine with that!! :-)

However, situations and individual opinions may differ..

Why two posts on the same topic?

VIVA - Presence of supervisors?

PS Delta aren't you a new PhD? I thought you were a year or two in... I may be wrong, are you defending? :-) Good luck, is so!

VIVA - Presence of supervisors?
P

YUp, they don't speak (usually)...but if anything goes wrong they are witnesses and if good people are "in your corner" and can back you up if the examiners deny something they might have said/done that they shouldn't have...

VIVA - Presence of supervisors?

I voted yes, but I think that's because I am completely inspired by my sup who is a brilliant mentor! I think the response differs from case to case...

Calling all students who have time to spear!
