Along the same line as the milkman message, the Dad of a friend of mine did his PhD when he was about 50 years old. That was unfortunate timing, because it coincided with his mid-life crisis, which he overcame by turning from a normal, Dad-like, family-orientated kind of man into a pompous git. When he rang the local take away pizza shop to order pizza, he insisted on placing the order under his full name and title. When he went to collect his pizza, he wouldn't respond until the 15 year old behind the counter called out his full name and title. In that situation, I can understand people rolling their eyes at PhD-holders.

Oops hit post before I was finished...

1262 (continued):
Richard of Chichester is canonised as a saint; he is best known as the author of the prayer later adapted into the song Day by Day in the musical Godspell.

Hang on, now this is post 1263...bugger...

1263:
King Alexander III of Scotland defeats the Viking armada of King Haakon IV of Norway in the Battle of Largs (gosh, they did fun things back then!).
Genoa captures the city of Chania on Crete from the Venetians.
And...our good friend Grand Duke Mindaugas is assassinated in an inside job (his cousin Treniota did it) - family, eh? Can't choose em, can only kill em.

Now tell me this isn't a better way to get to post 12345, Coastman.

Hmmm...does anyone think I have too much time on my hands these days?

And we might learn something...

1262:
Strasbourg becomes an Imperial Free City of the Holy Roman empire. King Mindaugas of Lithuania renounces Christianity, returning to his Pagan roots and reverting to the Grand Duke of Lithuania.

Where is sylvester?

Ooh, good point. Hope he is okay.

Ladies and gentlemen...I submitted!
P

Thanks, everybody. You are all so sweet.

I am not in true celebration mode yet. I always thought I would start popping the Champagne the moment I submitted. Instead, I feel in limbo and keep wondering if I will pass and thinking about the horrible things the examiners could say. Don't get me wrong, submitting does feel great, it just doesn't have the feeling of relief and finality that I have dreamt about for 5 years.

By the way, I am not going anywhere. I like it on here too much!

Will you call youself Dr?

Ha ha, pea! Love the eyelid idea.

Ladies and gentlemen...I submitted!

Monday was 5 years to the day since I started my PhD, Tuesday I printed 3 copies of my thesis and sent them to my supervisor, Wednesday he signs off that they are fit for examination, and Thursday they are submitted to the University. Woo hoo!

Now the nervous wait begins...

At at that time, Coastman, we will all have to use our zimmer frames to get to the computer!

Academic transcripts - how much does YOUR uni charge?!
P

My uni charges about $20 Aussie and there is no wait. 6 weeks?? That is ridiculous. Surely all it takes is 'click click' with a mouse a couple of times?

Thanks for the clarification, PGFT!
