I, erm, SOMEHOW, ended up in a garden centre at lunch time (how on earth did that happen?)
goal for this afternoon will be to not get lost when going downstairs and ending up in another shop...
Any morning that starts off with a free 500 words flying about the place has got to be a good morning!
Well, I slept in accidentally this morning. I was relying on my parcel delivery guy to wake me up at the usual 8-something AM, but he must've been running late! darn it. Anyway, a nice breakfast of cinnamon pancakes, and taking in complaints from the cats that they need immediate feeding, otherwise they will die, I am ready to work.
Working on the final detailed structure of my 2nd lit review chapter. Fighting my thoughts of "should I really have an entire chapter on something I know nothing about?" while writing it. Have been working on it for two days now, and still don't know anything about it! *sigh*
so my goal today is:
1) List all the points that have to be made in the chapter.
2) Fill out the first two sections with the info and references that I need.
I'll be working from 5, just spent 5 hours doing a huge shopping round for staple stuff for the next two months. Now I don't have to face supermarkets again until August!
BF going to work at 5pm, so will get on with some work, although haven't decided whether to code or write thesis this evening yet.
ha ha yes that is very true. I wonder how many more 'bank holiday weekends' I will have to ignore and work through... I've already taken one whole day off this week (yesterday because I was feeling so ill), I don't think I can justify another day off just because it's the bank holiday!
really struggling to stay focus on my writing today, I do a little bit, like a paragraph, then find myself surfing around the web... *sigh*
Right, that's everything copied over from my old thesis to new thesis (I decided to change the structure a bit).
Now I have to through each chapter and arrange things. JOY.
Outside is looking glorious, all I want to do is potter around in my vegetable garden :(
I think you'll have your thesis before your upgrade doc!! That's a great place to be though :) (I wish I was!)
I don't actually think anyone read through my transfer document properly... I spent ages and ages getting it *just so* but the people that were suppose to read it properly (sup, the ref, etc) basically just read the headings that said it was fine!!!!
I wouldn't say "so don't worry too much about your transfer doc" because I am aware that what happened to mine was not the standard thing to be done. However, I think if you already have a strong project proposal (I assume you do, as you were accepted with the said proposal), and done some good written work, most of your transfer doc will be a case of copying and pasting from the two!
Morning! I died yesterday, so didn't get anything done.
Today, I'm going to take a break from my coding (which is driving me up the wall) and work on my thesis. I have two notebooks of notes to put in there, so that should keep me busy for a looooooong while!
Isn't it so hard when there's sun outside?
I've always worked from home, even though I (now) only live about 8 mins walk from uni. As a lot of people said, my office is too noisy for me to work in also.
Anyway, just wanted to let you know what I do with files & data, in case it's of any use to you.
Working from USB memory stick is a good idea, but if you go between macs and PCs a lot, the sticks tend to die, and if that's the only updated copy of your work, you'll be a bit scuppered!
So I use dropbox https://www.dropbox.com/ to store everything online and use it as my main storage. I have a copy dropbox downloaded on every machine I work on (currently running 3 in the house), so when you update a file on one machine, it will get updated on all machines.
You can also access your files without installing the software by logging on to their website and logging in.
I tend to work on files saved at dropbox, then at lunch time and end of the day, I make a copy of all files onto whatever machine I'm working on (this is just in case their website dies or something). Once a week I download all files to my USB stick also, and back up all machines once a month... yes I am a bit paranoid about losing my work!
HTH :)
Glad it was all ok in the end for you Sneaks. I guess your sup would be more pleased that you owned up to an error than trying to hide it.
I seem to be creating (or at least finding) more bugs to this code than I am fixing atm. It's rather frustrating. AGH! I am so running out of steam on this code, I may try to write on my thesis for a few days just for a change.
Morning peeps :)
started early (for me) today, I've identified three bugs in my code, so I shall be fixing that today. I am aware that it is very unlikely that these bugs would ever be found (only applies to very very rare cases) but knowing my luck, the examiners will find it!
Also meeting with sub, going to ask for a bi-weekly meeting from now on till the end of the year/thesis, as I'm finding it a really really good motivator to get stuff done!
Sneaks, I know what you mean about cats and birds, my younger one (but still about 10 years old) brought a baby rat in on the weekend, I was pathetic, all I could do was scream while partner picked it up with his bare hands. And I thought I was quite the as bold as a man type! :$
evening peeps :)
Got sidetracked in the afternoon, made the mistake of meeting someone for coffee which turned into a shopping trip (for her). I was so tired when I got home, I had to rest up for few hours (I'm still recovering from an illness) so was 7pm by the time I got round to doing any proper amount of work. Still, managed to do more than I thought I would today, so it's not all bad :)
Lesson learnt: don't throw coffees in with people you haven't seen in ages in the middle of the day, near shops.
Morning :)
My goal today is add at least three error finding methods into my programme.
of course it's a beautiful day outside, I am so going to have a proper summer next year...
