is it ever good enough?

Jojo,

no, I have studied medicine yet also did an MBA. So do know a little bit about regarding management / business, but definitely no expert.

is it ever good enough?

Hi Jojo,

maybe one could also apply the Pareto rule: 80% of the work will take you only 20% of your time and effort, the last 20% (perfection!) will take 80%!

Personally I do not believe in perfection. I think it is typical for "theorists" to try and do things perfectly, but there are major problems as a result in making decisions and finishing on time. It can be a major reason for disappointment and frustration. Obviously I do not know your learning style yet perhaps an "aktivist approach" would suit you: Do things as good as you can and submit, you may get it back, corrections , submit etc. This may be more effective then go for perfection.

How to protect your research?

Well, by informal I mean that I am in the process of making a research protocol. As soon as this is considered to be OK it will "booked" as a formal study.

I am not to fussed about this, as I work and study aside of my normal job It is not the end of the world if things do not really work out. Obviously I not prepared to work for free and then having someone else using my research!

Any other views or ideas?

PhD without 'dr'

Hi Ann,

you are right. Obviously it is a bit strange that GP's, specialists etc. just are "given" (medicine is tough!) the title. However in some countries like Holland even a medical specialist can only call him/herself doctor if has done an MD or PhD.

How to protect your research?

Hi, silly question, and maybe I am paranoid.

How would you protect your intellectual property. I have developed some tools / questionnaires which my supervisor is quite keen to get, yet not sure for what use.

How could you assure that you are the owner? Via READ ONLY emails? Sending it to someone else first to assure it is clear that you have written it?

Again, may be a silly question. Any ideas?

PhD without 'dr'

No, it doesn't Ann.

The whole process is a so frustrating and hard work that at the end there nust be a reward to keep you going. As it is not money it is the title indicating that you have achieved something which most other people have not. Thus the dr is your recognition and therefore you are not a snob if you are proud of it.

hi K,

I am in medicine, so maybe a bit related to what you are doing. Looking at the quality in medical care

surrounded by bizarre personalities!!!
R

Hi Stacey,

there is always the question whether everyone around me is weird or whether I myself may be a strange! Food for thought.

I agree with you that in the research world there is quite a few excentric people and a lot are very introverted. Have not got the experience though that they are all dishonest and become easily psychotic. I agree that it is definitly a challenge to one way or another manage to work with diverse and as mentioned often introverted people!

Hi K,

just interested in what machine vision is? Is that like cars who can drive without a driver and "scan the road", or am I completely wrong?

By the way 7 pages a day of writing is impressive!

Hi Shasiani,

how are you? Hope you are OK.

Welcome at the forum, feel free to bring forward any issues that worry or bother you.

Feeling demotivated, any advice?
R

Hi mlis,

like Nimrod81 I think it is important to get a structure in your day. You could do this by making a scheme, for example until September ,write explicitly the hours and what you are going to do. Start writing small subsections now.
Also like you indicated yourself already social isolation is not a good thing. You may force yourself to get/ keep in contact with others. For example ring up old friends / start sports at a club / drink your coffee in a cafe etc.

What do you do while you are waiting for a reply?
R

Hi "Scotsman"

thanks for your reply. I doing my research in quality in medicine. Currently developing a questionnaire and waiting for a reply from my supervisor. The waiting holds me up, but there is not a lot what I can do for now. Yeah thinking a lot about this though!

What area of research are you in?

Stupid question - font

Hi Sixkitten

I use Arial for everything as it is, in my opinion, easiest to read. Alternative Times Roman yet looks very traditional. Problably best bet, as suggested by others, is to go with what the consenses is at your uni.
