I've heard other people say that about not wanting to let the Phd go, it's such a HUGE thing and part of your life at this point. Can you get someone to come over and offer to physically prise your hands from your keyboard and press 'send' to get rid of your pdf? :-)

There'll always be changes needed and mistakes, but then that's what doing the official corrections post-viva are for, I guess. After I'd sent off my chapters last night I felt relieved for a bit, then started thinking about other changes I should have done, and worrying that it might be crap and all those other things that go through my mind after I've just submitted something. I suppose it's similar but on a much bigger scale for you and Armendaf now though, so I do understand a bit.

Hi Tractorgirl, nice to hear from you! I'm glad the job's going ok, it must be hard having to prepare for your viva on top of that - it's loads more work when you're settling into a new job. Happy birthday for halloween too, mine was a few days ago.

I know of a supervisor who does this regularly for his students, but his actual style of writing is very verbose and nothing like anything his students would write. It is largely overlooked, as some of his students do not have English as their first language, but it is regarded as a rather dodgy practice. I'm wondering what this will look like to an external examiner. If I see very distinct changes in writing style for undergrad essays, I know it's either not referenced properly from some text they've read or written by someone else, with a possibility of plagiarism in the worst case scenario. Can you rewrite your supervisor's additions in your own words, so it looks like your own style, at least?

Don't be scared Armendaf, you'll get it done as best you can, and I bet whatever you submit will be better than you think it is, you're too close to see it properly now.

Lara I'm impressed with your hot tips about doing final versions with word etc, all useful for those poor sods like me who still have all that to come!!! Zombie break sounds good! As does your halloween party, that'll be a great break from all this PhD stuff. I like halloween too, I usually get a few halloweeny presents for my birthday as it's so near that date, I got a nice black skull and crossbones ice cube tray I'll have to use next year, you can probably use red or purple fruit juice in them and have them in a clear drink, that would look nice!! Or other lovely colour combinations too!

I've had it for today, I've sent the chapters off at last hehehe and am going to watch that fashion prog now. Started numbering all my figs wrongly so realised I was losing the plot, but ho hum that's life sometimes.

I'm going to do an Armendafandlara thing now and do what I can with this chapter in the time I've got left for today. Wise words a few posts back Lara - it will not be perfect but it will meet the deadline and can be polished up in the next stage.
