I've just received an email from a journal editor I submitted a paper to saying its been turned down...tere are too many papers of the same topic around and they did not think the paper offered anything new conceptually...
I was half expecting it as it wasn't originally a paper written for submission but just evolved into it....but now it has been rejected, I feel really deflated....
The author from the journal was actually quite nice about it and suggested submitting it elsewhere although not really sure I want to given that it is likely to be rejected again - if I feel this bad after one rejection, surely I'll feel twice as bad after 2!!
Any advice?
I am due to start my PhD in Sept and whilst the Head of Research has said I need to go in and complete some admin things, my supervisor has just sort of told me to dive in!
I have just finished my degree and will be finishing my regular job next week so I am used to a very 'routine' life! Whilst I appreciate that a PhD is independent study and won't provide me with any sort of routine, I thought there may be a little more guidance at the beginning! I'm just not sure where to start with my reserach....
Has anyone got any advice about where I should start?? I do have some books/journals I've been collecting over the summer which I plan to read as a starting point but other than that.....
Any advice much appreciated!
Thanks
Sarah
