perhaps you can consider looking for a non-African university to do a PHD which requires research in Africa? Maybe some project on say rural land development or research on women's health etc in an African area or theology studies in Africa etc.

that way your desire to go to Africa may be fulfilled---and you can do a phd as well!

What others have said about having an African PhD--it is true to a large extent because when we apply for jobs, we have to compete with others who have loads of publications, years of job experience, and PhDs from UK, USA, Germany, Singapore, India, Australia...

look at the webpage, there should be a link to download the file and save it as a pdf.
To attach the file, use your email programme, you can't attach it to this forum because then I will not be able to access it through the server that you accessed the paper from, it will ask me for a password and that's a no no.

That means when you have a paper to send me (or other people do the same for you as well) you use your email to send it, can't do it on the forum :-)

It would be a good idea to ask your librarian for help because in future you'll need to learn how to access other papers for your literature review and references :-)

I really feel for you because my previous supervisor was like that. You can't let this situation remain like this because then you won't get anywhere in the long run. Furthermore you are in the 5th year. I would try to set up an appointment with her and speak to her directly about this. Make a list of things to say first, so that you don't get distracted. If that doesn't work, you'll need to see someone else in the department or school, or someone from the graduate research school. There are procedures to cope with situations for example--student not up to standard, supervisor not up to standard etc.

oh yes the important items for your list should also include:

--dates for submitting thesis draft to her--and can she look at it in time
--date for submission on thesis
--if she can work together with you to achieve this--

Be brave, go out there and be heard.

The quickest (and not illegal) way to access peoples' names and addresses is to look at the phone directory. Of course some people do not have their number listed. Electoral roll would not be possible as data is confidential. Even if companies have such information they would not be able to release it to you for research.

Of course you'll need ethics approval for your research since you will be collecting data from people, and I assume it will be lots of people :-) When you prepare your application, you'll have more ideas where to find your sample :-) for example--if you were looking to administer questionnaires to say a group of nurses, perhaps you could approach targetted hospitals to speak to their Director of Nursing, or Matron, or whoever is in charge, tell them about your project (assuming it has been granted ethics approval to start) and they would then perhaps help you to find the sample of nurses that you need.

welcome to the Forum! You need to look for PhD studentships from universities who also open the application to non-EU nationals, see if you like the project, see if you meet their requirements and then make the application.

If you are overseas and they select you for interview, they could interview you through the Web, via Skype for example. Some universities make telephone interviews.

Be prepared then, as you need to speak fluently and sometimes they have a time limit for interviews. For example each applicant is only alloted 40 minutes.

I admire all you have done so far!!! Very impressive indeed. While you have all the knowledge, education and experience, I wonder why you dream of winning the Nobel prize :-)

The human intellect is NOT represented by the Nobel prize. If we want to do something good for humanity, we don't need to be acknowledged by the award of a Nobel price or title. In fact, if we can make a difference in someone's life (say 1 out of 200000 people), that is already good work done.
