Writing Too Critical - Any Advice?
S

hi lysethia
Im in the write-up stage (health/pscyhology); I have had a lapse of 6months (and approx. 23 days) of not doing anything due to a death in the family and lots of upheavals. Last week I even thought I was having a nervous breakdown; but I think I am not, it must be just mild depression!

Writing Too Critical - Any Advice?
S

hi Lysethia, and everyone who's posted here
I have a huge problem with critical writing!!!!
I seem to agree with everything people say in their papers?!!! Its as if I have no brain of my own.

And when I start to have critical ideas, I find that the authors (of say paper A) have already outlined their own weakness and limitations, so when I criticise it's like repeating what they themselves already said!!!!

any tips (for me too) would be much appreciated!

Disk or external hard drive for images
S

hi PamW, what software did you use for burning the disc? (example: Nero)
I use a mac which makes it very easy, I just copy the files over in a folder for the cd and then burn it.
Also you need to see how much space you have in the disk and if all the images can fit.

Tired of the strong supporting the weak culture
S

hi there! I have been absent from the forum for a while, I've just seen your post. I guess we are all in different situations and environments. My supervisor usually does not read anything I send him; its usually last minute, he will only look at it when I come in for a meeting/discussion, and then he asks me something about it, soemthing really basic, and that whole session is wasted because he did not bother to read it before I went in.But i have to admit, sometimes I forget what I have written or what I have done. Then I end up looking really stupid because I forgot what I did or wrote such a long time ago.

Now the UKBA has regulations upon universities for all foreign students to sign in attendance; and because I live away from the university it is difficult to come in and sign. My supervisor calls me and tells me this has nothing to do with him (of course I already know that!). I wish he never said this to me. But what can I do?

In the forum there are lots of very helpful people, its a good place to have your say here. I hope you are feeling better. Have a great week ahead!

satchi needs stats help please
S

can someone please help me here. This is for mixed anova. Just to cut short, the DV is say "Math marks" and IV is two conditions of "learning by ipod" and "learning by book".

1. I get p=0.00 for box test. Does this mean I cannot do the mixed anova.

2. If there is a significant Between Subject Effect, what do I do after that? I cannot run a post hoc test when there are only 2 groups.

Thanks

Hi Honey_bee
I am sorry I don't know how to advice you; as I have not been in this situation.
But I really feel for you. I hope you find a way with this.

PhD Interview (Please help if you know)
S

hi raham
Thank you for your post.

Perhaps you could have asked us:
"Anyone in the field of metamaterials and plasmonics here in the Forum?"

its not that people don't want to help, but your questions look better answered by someone already in that field.

I assume you have some background in this field, so you yourself should more or less know what they may ask about it.

Sit down and think about questions surrounding your chosen topic, so perhaps you can come up with potential questions by yourself.

Best of luck!
