I've used a small and cheap Olympus (I can't remember which model! it's in my drawer in the lab!) bought from Argos; it has a USB cable for transfering wma files. When I need a voice recording (and my little olympus is not with me) I just use my mobile; and then transfer that as well. Two important things: (1) the capacity for recording (how much space) and (2) labeling the audio files; date and time, and subject.

The audio files all look the same. Its very easy to forget which one is which (or maybe it's just me?!) :p

don't worry about all the mistakes you made.
Everybody makes mistakes.
Mistakes are helpful because they tell you what needs to be done in the research and are a means of future improvement.

May I suggest that you focus on writing your report; there must be some way of going round this to verify those ''mistakes'' made. In my opinion, ''mistakes'' mentioned in reports give them character; and are more life-like to the reader.

The best course of action will be to start looking for your phd of choice by yourself

1. look for options for funding/sponsorship from your home country first
2. look online at Phd websites like www.findaphd.com/
3. look at websites of universities which do ''Risk'' research
4. put your email address into the newsletters of scholarship/funding websites (to get regular updates)

I'm trying to avoid these social networking sites (difficult, though!).
There have so many invites that it has become really annoying.
Even facebook can be annoying sometimes. I signed up when I was in a really good mood.
And then it has never stopped (all the notifications, requests etc.!).

at the moment I only use Facebook (already stuck)

do you think the most prolific scammers come from Africa? I personally know two ladies who were almost conned by African scammers via social networking websites.

I guess it is a way of making a living, isn't it? If they can obtain say £50 from someone, that might go a long way in buying food etc. They are very clever. Unfortunately this is not a good way to make a living.

I would cite direct from the reference. For example if Smith et. al (1990) said that so-and-so much nitrate contributes to eutrophication at so-and-so level and then he puts another reference (say Sam et al. 1988) then I would get the Sam paper, read it and cite from there.

but there are always ways of citing more references; for example: you can say: According to the literature, elevated nitrate has done this (Sam et al., 1988; Harry, 1992; Kings et al, 1994).
