and you can see examples there (according to the reviewers, Study A did not do this...study B did not report this...)

if your friend is still so keen, he can also apply for an MSc programme (instead of just phd) in this area; sometimes it is not only based on the CV that students are selected from; it is also research ideas etc.

your final PhD title is (usually!) the one which comes in your registration form.

It will be written there; have a look at it. So if you are doing Pain in Neurology, is your department "school of health" (for example).

I am also doing a inter-disciplinary phd. But my final title comes under the umbrella term (of my school--and my research title!)

if you are still not sure, ask your supervisor; ask the MAIN supervisor, since you will usually have at least two for cross-discipline phds.
