Sorry I'm still not clear about dropbox, can somebody explain to me.

I read on the dropbox FAQ that people can access our public folder? I'm also not sure about this part: if we use dropbox online and the dropbox application, how different is that? So if I put a file in my public folder, then right click Dropbox-->copy public link, can other people see this file?

also I put a file sized 700MB in the Public folder, right-clicked and got the copy public link, and pasted that in an email sent it to my friend, but he was not able to access that link? how is that. what have I done wrong?

thanks a lot for your post! Longtable is very good but doesnt work for fat (really wide) tables.
I use \landscape for the table; the 1st problem was that the table was simply too fat.
Next was that it was long (vertically). If I fitted everything in one page and put \tiny for font, then the figures cannot be seen. Next I tried to see if I could change the page margins, but that was scary because I dont want to mess up my .sty file.

So in the end I split the fat table into two, kept the original page margins (because I dont know how to fix it for one page!) and now the table can be read comfortably. but in two tables instead one long, fat table.

I haven't looked at booktabs yet, though. Thanks for the suggestion. I will have a look at it.

In your presentation, have the usual title, introduction, rational, objectives etc.etc.
Speak about your project, and what you have done so far.
If you have results, present them as well!!
You don't have to spend too much time explaining the results, but say something :-)

It is also helpful to have your next "phase" ready (at some point in the presentation), or you dont have to put it in the presentation, but you can speak briefly about it... "from this...the next step will be to do...."

I think your supervisor will be with you during this progress presentation?

I guess it also depends on the funding; I'm funded by the university, I'm considered a student and do not have any specific set days of leave. Yes arrangements can be made when you are writing up etc. When I go somewhere (whether its a few days or a few weeks) I always inform my supervisor. As long as you maintain communication with your supervisor (your first port of call), it should be ok.

I used \framebox[1.5cm]{\rule{0pt}{10pt}}. That works :-) At some point when I was struggling I was thinking why the heck did I start using latex in the first place. But now I find that it's ok and worth the struggle because if my supervisor adds something to the document, I know it won't go wonky like MSWord. MS office is very good, of course, but it does go wonky if something else is added/formatted and can be sometimes difficult with big sized files. The only frightening thing about latex is that if something is wrong then I have to look for it myself.

hi Cyc, welcome to the forum. I'm not sure what you mean by poor rep; in what ways? :-) For me it would have to be a good project and great supervisors first. Sometimes small unknown universities do contribute to great work.Try not to worry, give yourself some more time to think about it. I assume you have more than just this offer :-)
