ok but then how do we test the R-squared significance from one model to another?
say we want to know if the effect change from model 1 to model 2 to model 3 is significant or not.

like when we run the regression model, we run model 1 and then model 2...and model 3.

but how do I test the models between models :-)

I have four regression models, and values of the constant (error) is something like 4.55***, 1.40, 4.49**. Assuming the same number of IVs and DVs are entered in the model.

I know the 1.40 is not significant, but what does that say about the error constant?
Also, with 4.55*** and 4.40**, what does the bigger or smaller value mean then?

I can't say that it is all common for a switch from social science to Humanities PhD.

What I can say is that it is possible; I have also switched fields :-) .

Your social science background will help you to adapt quickly to your new "environment" (this is my experience because I did a minor in Sociology and it helped me a lot--especially to understand theories and lots of other stuff I previously would have fallen asleep reading!!).

If you like this studentship, by all means go for it

here's sharing an email I just received:

A woman went into a store to buy her husband a pet for his birthday. After looking around, she found that all the pets were very expensive.

She told the clerk she wanted to buy a pet, but she didn't want to spend a fortune.

'Well,' said the clerk, 'I have a very large bullfrog. They say it's been trained to give blow jobs!'

'Blow jobs!' the woman replied.

'It hasn't been proven but we've sold 30 of them this month,' he said.

The woman thought it would be a great gag gift, and what if it's true...

No more blow jobs for her!

She bought the frog.

When she explained froggy's ability to her husband, he was extremely sceptical and laughed it off! ...

The woman went to bed happy, thinking she may never need to perform this less than riveting act again.

In the middle of the night, she was awakened by the noise of pots and pans flying everywhere, making hellacious banging and crashing sounds.

She ran downstairs to the kitchen, only to find her husband and the frog reading cook books.

'What are you two doing at this hour?' she asked.

The husband replied,

'If I can teach this frog to cook..........you're gone.'

I feel so tired because not only is he asking me something that is not relevant, he is going round in circles. If I show you, his email, you will most likely agree with me. He writes long dreary emails. Im glad I only have one supervisor like this, the others are easier to understand (email-wise). but its so hard to please everybody.
