Project Managment dilema
S

hi DD22 congratulations on getting your ACCA! I have heard that its not easy, lots of people fail. Have you asked any people who are actually already in the business? Looking at it either way, your future prospects are very bright. You have your ACCA, you can either do a masters in project management and you have your dad's business to fall back on.

I'm not from accounting field, I know only 3 fully qualified accountants who dont want to be accountants and are doing something else with their life. If you want to be a project manager, do it because you want to do it; you'll definitely pick up the skills you need, now you just need experience. YOu must probably still be very young (less than 30, I am guessing) so if you actually take up a one-year masters in project management you still have lots of time; you could arm yourself with this degree and then start getting your work experience, still not too late. With this masters you dont have to have people saying things about your background, you dont have to be bothered with all that.

either that you could also start working in your dads company and learn the ropes from bottom up. YOu could also start looking for apprenticeship now and see how your applications go, see if these companies accept your ACCA background. In fact, having ACCA is a good thing. You have learnt many skills from ACCA, and most project managers have no idea what accounting/auditing is (!) which is crucial to running and budgeting, you could have an upper hand.

Go ahead and explore first. Good luck

Do people really work this much?
S

hi slowmo :-) I think for me it would be 2 to 3 hours constant concentration; but for longer hours I need frequent short breaks...

on a very productive day it will take about 6 hours work.

i like to go into my lab even on weekends, because when Im there I always feel better. And usually I get something done. If I stay home, i will watch tv or go on youtube all day.

Makeup Queries (for Ladies)
S

hi starlight222
I recently watched a youtube tutorial on eyeshadow, but now I don't remember what it was called, maybe something like Spring Eye shadow, there was a pretty girl teaching the eyeshadow techniques, I think she used Elf cosmetics. I think that would go with your black dress; in the tutorial she showed pink and goldish eyeshadow.

I think you'll find lots of makeup tutorials on youtube. There was another one also on how to apply foundation; I also don't remember what it was called. but i got a lot of tips on it. There was this girl who used a cd to mix the foundation.

what are you wearing? black or gold dress? I think you'll also have to consider the colour of your eyes for the makeup and your hair perhaps. I have no idea what make up colour goes for gold dress, natural, do you think?

Visiting a foreign lab
S

hi and welcome to the forum! I love this forum and all my friends here.
I have had a foreign lab visit. I went to one of the Max Planck institutes in Germany for a 4 week course.
yes I enjoyed the visit very much; I was very impressed with how German professors taught their students; I also loved German time very much (always punctual, always on the dot, always precise, German style). I also struggled in the lab (either because I was very stupid or simply behind!!!!) and also I spent time just gawking at their instruments, machines, and they had this expensive few-in-the-world prototype models. The first few days there, it was like WOW WOW WOW.
It depends on your visit; my collaboration was inter-institution, so there was an arranged outing. They took us to town and even gave us a short day tour.

I think you will have a wonderful time! 2 or 3 days is very short but why not, just go for it.

conferences that publish your work
S

hi sneaks
guess what moonblue sent me the paper I needed!!! I love this forum and everyone in it!

a) you can still enter it if you want; you just have to be careful how to write the abstract. But I find 500 words quite a lot to write if you dont have results, it might be difficult.

b) if you're not sure yet, maybe you can wait a bit

I would wait a bit (means I wont send in the abstract). Like rick i prefer to have a full paper first, or at least three-quarters of a paper (with some results).

Anyway you still have until wednesday to decide :-)

hi Rick and 404
thanks for your replies; I managed to find a reference on value differences and conflict resolution. Rick you are right about this going for marketing/products. I'm still looking though. I found one (Harrison et al., 1968) that said "assessment of response competition afterwards indicated that response competition decreased as a function of repeated stimulus exposures"; now I hope to find another reference which says the opposite.
thanks a lot

Conference abstract

hi jw254; welcome to the Forum
You can still write an abstract without data, in your case it would be like an introductory study write-up.
So just talk about what your study is about and what it is going to do.

Hi natassia
I'm not really doing anything in psychology; just that my literature review needs to have some reference about "liking", some human factor reference. But thanks for the tips. I did find something though, will be downloading.
