oh my. I don't know what reagents you are using but not to worry, sometimes the reagents may stil be able to work!!!
We used to prepare PCR and RT-PCR without using any ice! And they always worked.

If you need to use more reagents, it would be a good idea to see if you can "borrow" some from your lab-mates or from the other labs! Someone will be able to help.

When we report results of ANOVA, if there is no sphericity to correct, that means we don't use the greenhouse geisser correction, is that right? so we report the first sphericity assumed figures.

Or we jump straight away to the greenhouse geisser values even though the sphericity assumed is significant.

I'm sorry to hear that you've suffered some stress and had to go on antidepressants.
Please don't worry about your MSc. grades; a merit is a still good achievement. I would say, at this point, continue to work on your research proposal and look forward to the coming PhD interviews :-)

Remember that you need a break sometimes, away from the computer etc.
Remember also, that this depression or stressful condition is not permanent. It will eventually pass and you will emerge stronger than before.

Don't worry.
Oh yes, do something nice for yourself :-)

A: tell them about the library facilities (where the photocopiers are) and available support (finding articles, workshops for referencing software, librarian's email, how to make inter-library loan, how to top up their student card in case they need to print something in the library)

Q: what do you find useful or not useful about the library?
A: Useful is all the stuff in the library (books, computers, people etc)
Not useful is the wasted space or space not properly utilized; arrangement of group-study that might not be a good location

Q: what things would you like the library to offer that they don't do at the moment?
A: Library should also offer dvds of educational movies, art films, concert dvds, language dvds (there are none at my uni library :-) ) And ALSO lending laptops to students (this is not available but in SPAIN, yes)

anything else about library: I dont like people eating in the library. I always see this. Speaking on the phone is ok for me, its still tolerable. Sips of water are still ok. but not crisps and sandwiches smuggled in.

I'm so sorry to hear of your predicament!
Have you contacted your graduate research school? Surely there is someone there who can speak to you.
Or does your school have a separate Mentor or Postgraduate Tutor?
Speak to someone and see if they can offer a solution; either change supervisor or get a back-up supervisor (a 2nd supervisor).
Find someone from your university and speak to them in confidence.

Here you will only get virtual answers; you need to speak to a real person from your real university so that you won't fall sick in the long run.

hi jollygolightly, I have seen with my very own eyes how supervisors treat their students as "very cheap research assistant". I will tell you the truth.

I wont say where and which university.

This is what the students (whom I personally know) have been doing for their supervisors:

1. preparing teaching slides (for their supervisors to USE while teaching certain modules!)
2. writing lengthy reports (of which their supervisors acquired grants for certain project, but students are made to write the reports)
3. teaching undergrad students (because their supervisors do not teach, but instead, get the phd students to teach, and these phd students ARE NOT PAID anything for this)
4. helping the supervisor to do his personal things like moving house (while he is moving house, he gets his phd students to carry boxes etc.)
5. phd students doing the supervisors' OWN PERSONAL research (of which, he is getting paid from an outside source) but he is using his phd students to get in the mud and get the data

I have seen with my very own eyes, people doing more than FOUR years masters degree and not able to finish because of the enormous workload their supervisor has made them do. Why they did not walk away, why they still stay and bear with it, I don't know. I know I was lucky not to be in this situation.

In your case, your supervisor is only pushing you to get data, what more can be worse?
