it also doesnt help when your trying not to contaminate samples...!!!

does anyone else suffer from hayfever!!! driving me crazy trying to set up PCRs and i look like im crying. sniffing all the time!! anyone have any useful tips to deal with it? taking antihistamines which make me sleepy. not great combined with a PhD!

ive been thinking about this a lot lately as my sup seems to think lab work will finish at the three year point (no earlier) and then i will write up after this and do additional expeirments if needed. he also seems to think this will be full time and i wont be working... for me this is financially impossible!! how have others funded this period?

i get paid quarterly with bbsrc i was meant to get paid the october i started but took them an extra month as they lost my degree certificate as proof i was doing the phd.

the new ones last year got 1000 more than what we do now even with the yearly increase but i was told it was because it was getting harder to recruit and didnt mean we would get any more,

i met my boyf the week before i started my Phd and he is an electrican (so not in a smilar position at all) i dont find it affects my Phd at all and dont think i could live with someone who was as stressed at me (i.e fellow PhDs)
On the down side he doesnt really understand when i get upset and cry over cells dying etc!but then i have people to talk to at work about PhD related things.

i was terrified for mine but it went really well. i spend ages learning my presentation etc bu they were really positive. i just had to justify what i was planning and why they didnt ask me any really difficult questions.

if you could write a research proposal in detail it may help find a supervisor or research group leaders who have done similar things and approach them to see if they would be interested in supervising you.

have you tried contacting potential supervisors etc that would be a good place to start in deciding what you want to do.

well the problem with a research phd is you would mainly decide your own project and direct your own work. but if you feel you have the enthusiasm and drive and good ideas try approaching potential supervisors, who may also be able to help find funding sources. it depends why you want to do a Phd i.e do you want to stay in research and will it further your career?

why are you scared?

have you seen any projects advertised? would you be willing to find your own funding? i would think that would be more research based and not involve lecutures/essays etc

i was made to stand in the corner at primary school for being finished first as the teacher didnt think it was normal.. at secondary my english teacher said i would never get anywhere with my handwriting so when i get my PhD they will all be getting a letter hehe.

maybe he needs to know when i told mine the way he was with me was just not on he did listen and try take it on board. i was past the point of caring if he thought me crying made me a stupid girl i just couldnt take it anymore. maybe your sup just doesnt see how he is may be upsetting.
