Renting isn't a bad idea in the short-term.

If you rented for six months and bought around Xmas you can actually get some very good deals as it is a 'lull' in the property year. My friend came off the property ladder for 6 months and rented - she found a bargain just after Xmas and was even able to knock a few more grand off because she could move quickly (no chain). Renting would also give you the time to find somewhere you liked

TBH I would pull out because it sounds like this house will cost you a lot of money in the long term. If you did continue you should at least drop your offer significantly.

Bristol Uni Shutting Courses

So angry!

Just read in Private Eye that Bristol University are shutting short science courses for the blind (lack of funding). They have said there is "little academic rationale" for the courses, but the programmes (usually one term) are assessed, involve independent study and count towards academic credit. The courses have developed numerous new lab techniques for sight-impaired students, but now all the staff have been made redundant.

I know funding can't go everywhere, but I find it upsetting that courses like this should be cut

Everyone eats and needs to be healthy, which is why I agree it would be important to teach that

But assuming you will have a family or that women need to learn home skills (to look after their men) isn't right

I think Ann is right - you can present the same info, but you shouldn't publish the same

Learning about a family is different DanB. Whether or not you ever have to do a top-heavy fraction again is not the same as imposing societal assumptions. It is very similar to the days when girls were taught home skills because, of course, we'd all be married and looking after our husbands by the time we hit 20. It's a bit un-PC to 'assume' that everyone will raise a family

schadenfreude- AM I a bad person??

I agree with Tricky - as long as you keep it to yourself, be as joyous at you want!

I think some examples of the words used (such as the 'death' example) can be over-analysed. Journalists are taught to write a certain way and you apply that training regardless of the situation. Maybe you can argue that there is an element of subconscious bias, but these are terms that would apply in any conflict scenario.
