wow 14! I get bored around 8 usually and haven't used it for months - there's a rebel side to my brain which refuses!
Goal 1: Write out definitions of my 5 outcome measures in method section.
I have two 1tb external drives which I back up to, but my friend recently had hers completely wiped, paid a fortune for clever people to recover the data, which they couldn't. She has no idea why, the only thing we could think of was that she may have left her phone near it???
Anyway, that's scared me, I tend to back up finished pieces of writing to googledocs, so its always out there - I have the fear that a burglar (probably burglar bill) will come in and physically take my computer and my 1tb drives - so the online option eases my anxiousness.
Although I think i might start using dropbox - this wasn't an option earlier in my PhD because my data is very sensitive cos I work with an organisation, but now I've anonymised it all i think its ok.
well I applied, I made sure I attached my CV too - which so far has got me through to interview for every job I've applied for. (I think they meet me and then think, oh dear, the cv was better!). I added a bit to the covering letter and think its ok - as its being sent to a jobs@university address. My 'statement of why I'm amazing' was basically my cover letter anyway, so would have looked silly to copy and paste bits IMO. I very much doubt my sup will let me have the job if I got it anwyay, as they want it to start 2 weeks before my stipend finishes and I foresee her being difficult about it.
I looked at speakspeak.com to work out the yours faithfully/sincerely (i have to do this for every letter I write!)
And no my name is not sneaks :-( *walks away in shame*
woo sent application, Finally! its taken about 2 weeks to get that sorted!
Might take the dawg out for a walk now. I also need to clean my kitchen cos my parents are coming this weekend - its very dirty - I mean VERY we had the house plastered about 2 months ago and haven't cleaned since - its literally got plaster dust on the surfaces still :$
NO MORE COMMENTS PLEASE
I've sent it eeek - after about 10 mins hovering over the send button - so don't want anyone to stress me out at this stage!
hi grahamwebb.
The main rule, for me anyway, is to only set manageable goals and no more than 2 at a time. I had a 'sneaks accountability thread' where it just went wrong, because I was setting myself a long list everyday and not getting anything done and then feeling rubbish, so that's why it is the "one goal" thread.
I personally don't count waking up/showering etc as goals, well for the PhD at any rate.
I might stick to 'my games' which are spyro, super mario (currently on super mario galaxy 2) and anything that is colourful and not just variations of green and grey. Hubs plays red dead redemption, pro evo, call of duty, prince of persia, unchartered, resident evil, bioshock to name a few.
My fav game at the mo is anything to do with colin mccrae :-)
do you mean the 'right one' as in right/wrong or right/left?
I'm on another forum where a member is currently considering working on sex-chat lines
is that cover letter ok??
What else do you think it needs?
I'm going to send it soon so any feedback would be welcome.
my supervisor is VERY tight with her research - she doesn't let ANYONE see it and has banned me from discussing it in job interviews and even putting it on my CV (I've ignored this advice). But she's a prof, so I guess it doesn't necessarily get better. She advises me not to discuss any research - to keep key findings out of conference presentations etc until it is published.
yep, I always do the easy stuff (admin) first and then never get onto the later stuff. I guess for me I left it so late that I HAD to get on with it eventually! (I left it 2 years before analysing my first study data!)
But mytomatoes.com helps with getting stuff done. Also having strict rules if you work from home.
i.e. NO call of duty! (whenever I've played I can't work out how to walk in one direction AND aim the gun!)
Have goals to do in the day (on my goal thread - I'll even give you a star if you're lucky)
I'm trying to get the guts to send my supervisor back the SAME copy of something she's critiqued as I've noticed that draft A gets changed 12 times but then Draft L is in exactly the same format etc as Draft A - so I might as well just keep sending her the same document, I wonder if she'd ever notice!?
My goal is to send the job application off before doing anything else. ( i need to eat my roll which is in the oven first actually)
Thank you.
I think I'll email the application - if I send it I think it looks crap when it turns up all scuffed from the post. I can then email my CV in shiny pdf format :-)
My covering email will be along the lines of
dear xyz
I would like to apply for job xyz , reference 123, as advertised at xxxxxx.
I have attached an application and cv which provide details concerning my suitability for the post.
Yours faithfully/sincerely (will look this up)
Sneaks (must remember not to put sneaks though)
I need to apply to a research job. I've filled in the application but I have a few qs
1) it has places to sign but the ad says "return the application form to the postal or email address" - I would rather email it, but then I won't be able to sign it! - what do I do!?
2) do I write a covering email/letter - the application has a section about what I'd bring to the role and why I'm suitable etc. so I'd just be copy and pasting. Is it ok just to have a "please find attached" covering letter??
