I feel so stuck with my work at the moment. I'm trying to structure a chapter introduction so that the hypotheses are nice and clear and the order flows well, but really I have no idea what I'm doing :-(

I'd phone software4students, they must have a tech helpline. I don't think mine took that long to download, only took about 10 mins or so.

more supervisor problems

I'd speak to the supervisor - then one who helped you out - rather than email, you probably don't want an email trail of you talking about it which he then forwards to your supervisors - I've seen this happen! (not to me thank god).

My sup can be the same, I sent her 50,000 words, I'd been working on them ALL last summer and she STILL hasn't looked at them. She said to me the other day "oh I found a load of writing in my email box - I'd forgotten you'd done that" but yet, still no comments or feedback!

err my hubby did mine for me, I think there's a link or something you can download it from?? I'm rubbish at this kind of thing - is it in your email?

double post ;-)

You only have to use it if you are listing, say people, without the numbers next to them, and then listing the numbers later, in the same order. If that makes sense!

no, my hubby is peed off with the dark - waking up in the dark, coming home in the dark, so we're staying in london for a week to give him some rest from it all = we can get up later.

I don't seem to have done PhD work for ages, so my first goal is to look through my analysis :-)

Software for students has it for £38 - not sure if its slightly different to Wal's version, but has everything I need on it.

I only use it when I have a list, followed by their numbers associated with each member on the list e.g. "hippos and giraffes scored 34 and 48 respectively"

But I wouldn't say "hippos scored 34 respectively and giraffes scored 48 respectively", I'd just say "hippos scored 34 and giraffes scored 48".

Reference from supervisor- advice required!
Avatar for sneaks

In my recent reference, my supervisor highlighted the fact that I work very promptly, have great publications coming out, am very organised and juggle multiple projects, good at teaching (I am amazing obviously at everything).

If you're going to just have 1 reference, then make sure its a balance of teaching/research mention publications and any other strengths etc. because some jobs will be full on teaching, some will be purely research, some will be a mix, some will require you to have worked with xyz participants etc. so a balanced reference should serve you well.

Organising your material

ooh I just write as I go - I never read anything and then put it down. I read, then write, then read, then write until I have it all written.

If I read a sentence of something that triggers a little lightbulb I'll copy and paste it into Microsoft One Note - with a little note about where I think it could fit in. And every month or so I go through to see if there's something in my one note file that may help what I'm doing currently :-)

yep, I recently got it, because I needed access and software for students have the entire office package for under £40 - not bad!

I've not used it much yet, but it seems to be very similar to 2007, so don't worry too much!

Any scientists tempted to join the brain drain?

I've tried SBCC, but he won't even go to France because 'they're all arrogant' (forgetting that I am half french!) He's very much a small-town stay at home kind of person, I don't think he'd ever want to travel etc. However he has admitted he doesn't mind 'travelling' but insists on 5* accomodation - so we don't travel very often lol.

A little Endnote question
Avatar for sneaks

put a comma after the name entry in your endnote, e.g.

'department for education,'

so is the london meet up happening after all?
Avatar for sneaks

i'm in london all this week actually. Although feeling a bit fat and frumpy so not sure if I can be seen (?)
