yes slizor - they are my favourite cereal - wildly overpriced and very addictive. I can't really taste the sugar anymore - I have that much in my sytem!

Unfortunately I always have cinamon in the house and sugar, so even if I don't buy chocolate etc. my sneaky devil brain decides that I can make my own cinnamon toast snack :$

Anyway, I've had a 48kcla Latte and I've made it to 11 without scoffing food, but definitely hungry. Going to have a snack - possible a pack of mini chedders and then get back to work for a 1pm lunch!

PhD identity - and what else?

I'm feeling totally rubbish about my PhD identity - yeah it would be fine if I could get a research job, but there are none around in my field. The civil service has just announced the recruitment freeze - great! So there are very few options for me to go into a field related to my PhD. 2 years ago I was all "I'm a PhD student doncha know? and I'm going to be a Dr!" Now, I'm just thinking I made a huge mistake - I've really enjoyed the process, but realistically I am a lot worse off than I would have been if I'd gone into private sector work straight after my masters.

The private sector companies in my field really value experience and selling ability - they don't really want people who tear apart their products with their critical thinking! So I'm now having to look for any local job I can, nothing related to my subject and jobs I could have got without even A levels, and to get a local job I will have to take my MSc and PhD off my CV and replace it with 'went travelling' because most local companies will not want some 'know it all' working for them - they just want someone to do the job :-(

I've checked on 5 or 6 websites now, even when they say 'very very light cycling on flat' its still about 200 kcals in half an hour! and I do a up/down program where the resistence goes up and down for 30 mins, so like climbing mini hills (apart from you never get to go WHeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee on the way down :-( )

I think the options you need in the program are under View>options and then you will get a thing called 'automatic pause' and then 3 times you can change. I find that I often need to set these times differently according to the speaker. But after 2 mins of getting it right, it can make the whole transcribing process much quicker!

OK, I actually got on the bike!!! I was on it for 30 mins and apparently burned 136 Kcals and went 8.06km, although all the websites with calorie counters say it should be more 300 kcals - I've always thought my bike was way too conservative with the calorie count!

I then went on a 45 min dog walk up and down a huge hill behind my house.

I've eaten a small bowl of cinnamon cereal mmmm - but in my defense, it was the last of the packet so onto boring cereal tomorrow :-(

Feeling starving now, as ate breakfast at 6am, but will wait until 10.30 to have a snack (up)

haha Stressed - my bike is actually a home exercise recumbant one - so I sit down on a big seat rather than saddle if that makes sense -its cos I have a really bad back and my spine has to be bent when I exercise - I'm not supposed to dojogging, walking etc not supposed to do sit ups, rowing either, or lift weights, so that leaves my bike and swimming and as I have very long hair, I can't ruin it with chlorine!

ok ok, you've properly guitled me into action. I will go on my bike for 30 mins tomorrow! And I will do it BEFORE the dog walk, as I can't NOT walk the dog, but if i do the dog walk first I will make an excuse for not doing the bike.

I will also cut out mini kievs :-( or at least cut down in mini kievs.

have you tried measuring yourself rather than weighing - muscle weighs more than fat (not that I'd know!) so that could be the reason.

Or....

You could have a littlun on the way!

wow you do LOADS of exercise. I do walk my dog and fool about playing just dance, but I need to get back on my exercise bike. I was thinking about joining slimming world, problem is, unless hubby sticks to it to, there's no point, because otherwise I end up having to buy 2 meals for every meal! v expensive :-(

I was thinking about this thread today - how odd.

I have not stayed on my diet - at all! In fact I have developed rather an addiction to mini kievs - I know they are made out of non-free range as well which makes me feeel SO guilty, but they are so yummy! I think I will have to adopt an ex-battery hen or two to make up for it, and maybe donate money to a chicken charity?

I've lost all motivation and the hot days completely put me off wanting to exercise and I'm turning into a big lump o' lard :-(

Not sure what to do about it really. I think the secret probably lies in exercise, rather than strict diet as I can't concentrate when cutting calories.

no idea about FGD. But I found 'transcription buddy' really really useful. Its free to download from www.download.com and has a free 30 day trial - when the trial is up, then uninstall and reinstall and it lets you use it again. I've used it for 4 years for free now!

It has automatic pauses so rather than pressing pause, play, rewind all the time you can set a speed for the interview, then it will loop depending on what times you give it e.g. for a fast speaker you could have

play: 9 seconds
pause: 3 seconds:
rewind: 2 seconds
play: 9 seconds
..

and so on, so it continually loops whilst slowly moving through the recording. and you can change the speed of the speakers voice etc. - although obviously only good for digital recordings.

Ok CALM CALM - I emailed sup and she doesn't seem that bothered - so after another 10 mins of me cringing in my office to myself I will get back on with work!
