Phew! :-)

I reckon you take photo's of you and said letter doing extreme activities and make a book out of it... Extreme Ethical Approval Confirmation... or something to that effect (like extreme ironing...)

fab idea jinkim! Better start out at number 10 - everyone is hanging out down there!

You should definitely scan it and keep as Pdf!

I'd take a few 100 photocopies of that Wal, and maybe a photo of you holding it on location.

LaTeX vs Word
Avatar for sneaks

I'd like to do LaTex - but my supervisor likes to change things and she can barely work 'track changes' in word, and she can't even use the underline button in word 2007 so I'm guessing learning a whole new thing would be impossible for her.

Did you keep any evidence of communication that said you had ethics approval? - like emails etc?

dog is ok - sleeping in the corner, finally! I have spent the last hour eating and taking a "are you a psychopath" test (I was curious) apparently I am not a psychopath, I just don't like people, which is what I suspected because I do love my dog and hubby. Am very sleepy, haven't done any work....need to do work zzzzz

sample size
Avatar for sneaks

it depends on what you want to do with it. If you want to run statistics on it, certain types of statistics require different minimum sample sizes than others. Generaly the bigger the better though.

I've had an awful morning! I was up ALL night - from 1am onwards with my dog who is sick. I then went to do the weekly shop and get her pepto bismal and while I was out she had managed to confuse our hallway, bedroom and stair carpets with 'the facilities'. So have spent AGES cleaning. Then my dad phones - in an attempt to comfort me, spends an hour telling me how hard its going to be for me to get a job :-( Now I have a lot of work to do for tomorrow and feeling VERY tired.

All my work is around getting my paper up to speed for sup to read in her office tommorrow. So...

Goal 1: Add section on perceived versus real XXXXXX

How much reading do you do during a literature review
Avatar for sneaks

I STILL haven't written my lit review and ive got 6 months to go! Don't panic! - best thing to do though is write as you go, otherwise it will all disappear out of your head (well it has from mine) - luckily I wrote little essays on each area of the literature, so I now only have to go back to them, update and mash them all together.

Well done Wal! I too am at the END of data collection WOOOOO and I've nearly analysed all the Qual stuff WOOOOOOOO I've just got to write it all up now. BOOOOOOOO

Goal today: do lots of marking, try to get it all done and leave it at uni with moderator.

What are your plans?
Avatar for sneaks

ooh this is what I'm not sure about either. My funding runs out in october. I'm still not sure at all whether I'll submit then, but hopefully before xmas. I have no job lined up. We have savings, but I don't really want to squander them. I think I will have to get a min wage job e.g. call centre work for a few months. Hopefully they'll do this no tax under 10k thing which should help out (unless they tax over 10k at 50% or something)

Presentation

Quote From algaequeen:

um....I always include a slide like this.  We've always been told (and I agree) that the best way to do a presentation is firstly, tell them what you're going to tell them, tell them, and then tell them what you've told them. So basically a slide to say briefly here's what I'm going to be talking about, here's all the stuff, and then a final slide to summarise everything. I prefer hearing these slides in a talk too, because then you know the structure of the talk and it's easier to focus on what the presenter is saying then.
Sorry if I've made it awkward!

Yeah, I was taught that way too - but it will only be a talk to about 30 people, so I reckon I'm just going to leave the title slide up and say what I'm going to cover e.g. "so I'm here today to go through my research, the background, method - how I collected the data, my findings and potential implications" and then dive in - I feel a bit of a tw@ bringing up the bullet points on a slide. I will do that for my talk on Monday though - as its my annual review!

Presentation

Thank you - I've not included it. I don't think I will have to present anyway, but the bloke who might be presenting his own presentation might not be able to because of civil service and purdah?? - cos we haven't got a government yet, so I was told "a backup is always useful" :-s

hmm haven't resumed marking yet. I know I will regret this tomorrow :-( I'm feeling very lazy after a productive morning.

Ok I've done goal 2 - I got bored of the essays!

I'm going to make a cup of tea and try and mark a few more before hubs comes home - they are SOOOOO dull.

holidays?
Avatar for sneaks

Anyone going on holiday?

If so where?

It looks like I will be staying at home for a week - where I work :-( so pretty pointless!
