I forgot to say, that I don't want to work consultancy hours. Although as an academic you probably work more than any other profession - you can do it in your own schedule with no one bossing you. My friends have to log onto this computer system and then they have to 'cost' their hours so their boss knows what they've been doing! Not for me!

I couldn't run a restaurant - I refuse to do dinner parties because I'm so scared of killing someone with undercooked chicken and I then massively over cook it and i get so stressed about the food poisoning issue that I end up over-cleaning my kitchen. I'd be constantly on edge!

I'm same as you Wal, I could go into consultancy in my field, but it involves less skill and more sales ability - its essentially selling/pushing your product on people. So I don't think I would enjoy it, most of my friends do it and I just don't think I have the ambition (the kind of nasty evil ambition that means you kill people to get ahead) and I also don't think that they would want me, they would see right through my lies in the interview and realise I'm far too lack lustre for their consultancy.
So that leaves me with something unrelated to my field :-(
So I guess anything that takes someone with an education-heavy CV and no practical experience! hahaha - oh dear!

My PC did this - I think it was the fan?? Or i think sometimes it searches for a drive that's not there - so you can change the start up thing, by pressing F2 or something??? (I'm no computer whiz)

I have 3 main studies to my PhD. I interviewed 40 people - about 45 mins per interview. my first study I've analysed that data using thematic analysis. My 2nd study, I've analysed the same interviews in a different way. My third study, I've turned the themes from study 1 into a questionnaire and combined it with established questionnaires.

BUT I know people who have done 30 intevriews, analysed it once, and that's their whole thesis! So I think it depends on your area. Have a scout about ethos (bristih library holdings of PhD theses - its online) and see what people have done in your area.

I don't get why they can't quantitative ease their way out of the debt i.e. I owe £4.50. EVERYONE in my department passed with no corrections! Its SO annoying. I wouldn't mind major revisions as long as I don't have to re-viva and it gets the damn thing done, but even if I get minor spelling corrections I will feel like a failure!

My grandad took speed - apparently they gave it to everyone so they stayed awake for a longer time on D-Day, so i reckon david dimbleby wouldn't be adverse to it :p

haha, I could, but I'm not supposed to jog - really bad back, plus the fact my dog likes to criss cross in front of you when you walk and gets under your feet. I've tried to run with her but she just trips me up!
