Well I had 2 bread rolls for lunch and then pepsi - which i thought was pepsi max but is just pepsi, so slipped up on the calories there. If I get enough work done today I might have a go on the wii fit later.

I'm not sure I could stand Bill Murray in Fantastic Mr Fox. I was brought up listening to the tape read by roald dahl and the animated version looks SO american.

One of my goals was going to be trying to find out how to pay for a conference registration, but looks like I will actually have to go into uni to do that! A disgrace!! ;-) So will probably miss the cheap early booking rate because I'm not going in this week :-( Also debating whether I should sign myself up for a horrible stats course after the conference!?

I would be cautious about assuming your reading will be totally relevant. PhDs have the habit of going off on tangents to your original proposal, or you read one article that changes your whole topic.

ok yesterday was a right off, but had an early night and feeling much better today.

Goal 1: re-check 2 analyses before 10am.

my husband has been kind enough to make me sit through all the rocky films about 20 times (especailly the third one :-s ) and all the rambo movies - he's taken me to the cinema to see the most recent one, which was dire. He also is fond of alien vs predator which was the worst film I've ever seen!

I've come to detest these arty films that seem to have the first half an hour in silence as the main character makes some tea or something e.g. there will be blood, no country for old men, the wrestler - all extremely boring in my mind!

Last film I saw at the cinema was clash of the titans. I'm not a film buff, so I thought it was pretty good (film buffs always seem to think entertaining films are rubbish). Husband wouldn't let me watch it in 3d because apparently "post production 3d is rubbish". So the 2d version it was - I liked it all (especially scantily clad ancient greek men) ooh and I liked one of the dresses that gemma arterton wears. I thought the special effects for medusa were rubbish though - looked like something off 'chuggington' - you may have to google that.

I don't think you show your sup the acknowledgements - I think its supposed to be kinds of a surprise for them - and its a personal thing, not an academic thing. I think mine will mostly be about my dog. She gets me out into the sunshine twice a day and lets me sleep on her bed when I get drowsy :-):-):-) she might also proof read it if I'm lucky (up)

Personally I'm going to save doing them until the very last moment - its kind of a superstition type thing I think for me.

I have thought (day dreamed) about writing my acknowledgements. The bit that gets me is having to put names in you don't really want to thank e.g. the annoying supervisor who you never actually met and has never seen your work, but he wants to be on the publications etc. and other, more senior staff in your department that have given you patronising advice.

My sup often triple books meetings with all her supervisees, so we all sit around having to wait for the others to come out. e.g we all turn up at 1pm, but some of us have to wait until 3pm or 4pm to be seen! Very annoying!

I've decided to start writing bits of my husbands thesis, that he refuses to do because he's in a mood with the whole thing.

ooh a nice gant chart/timeline always goes down well in my department. In fact I once did a presentation with 1 gant chart for each year of my PhD and then an overall one haha, so there were 4 in my presentation! It just shows you are thinking about the future, how to complete in three years (ha!) and shows organisational skills I suppose.

If its a presentation I always like to include a 'research difficulty' i.e. "how do I source participants for xyz" because then it uses up all your question time so they can't ask difficult stuff!
