I do know a lot of people in my field that work in the private sector but keep publishing work so they have the option of moving in between. They also guest lecture on courses giving 'from the field' interpretations of subjects. However, I know these are VERY ambitious people who do all this in their spare time. I am not like that!

As you may see from other posts research in organisations is very difficult and you can be pulled into the propaganda machine. This is why research from organisations is often sniffed at, so although you can publish work, the methodology is often less rigorous than academic approaches, and there are many confounding variables - chiefly "make us look good".

Sock refers to 'sock puppet' i.e. a person who has multiple forum IDs and often talks to themselves on threads to create a - I want to say 'furore' but don't know how to spell - I hope that makes sense.

ooh I always wondered what would happen if you left metal on in an MRI. I've had 4 MRIs and 3 of them after having metal implants in my spine. They always say they are MRI safe, but when you are lying there hearing the banging and clanking of the machine, you imagine the worse - i.e. your spine suddenly being ripped apart and bits of fleshy metal flying out of your body and attaching themselves to the side of the machine! :$

my hubby has 2 great jokes which are only funny because he has dyslexia. They are both jokes where he has mixed up meanings of things or misremembered the original joke, but it makes them even funnier IMO.

I got undertook by a man on a mobility scooter. I was happily walking along and he basically tried to cut me up. I turned left to walk across the road and he tried to speed past me, we collided and he ended up on the floor :$ and it wasn't just an obese person on the scooter (as they so often are) it was a proper disabled person with no legs. it was SO embarrassing, although technically his fault and it blimmin well hurt me, having a grown man crash into me in a scooter, but bystanders looked at me like I was evil personified.

Do you do MRI scans for anyone? Can I come along and make sure i haven't got any illnesses for free???

ah well i'm half way through my analysis, which should have taken 20 mins really, but has taken ALL day :$ I'm in a funny mood today, I can't quite settle, but I can feel a settled mood coming on. I might persuade hubs to watch football/cricket (not that it will take a lot of persuasion) tonight so I can do work.

Get a pyrolictic (sp?) oven next time, you just burn it all off - t'is great. I just need some kind of similar system for the hoovering - maybe I can put disposable dust sheets down everyweek and then just throw them away with all the dust on them???
