hmm victim is now playing PS3 - so not so ill afterall. I did most of my intro yesterday (it was supposed to be finished by last weds!). I have one more section to do and then I need to get on with the results/findings. So

Before lunch I need to
- finish off final section
- read through and smooth out intro

After lunch
- write up 2 out of the 5 results sections - linking them to literature.

tomorrow
- write up last 3 results sections
- try and start discussion!

I'm not usually a weekend worker, so going to have to use some real will power to stay at my desk!

Perhaps these relationships aren't what they seem as well. I know a few couples who I think 'christ that's a nasty relationship' - I've sat in the pub when my friend screamed at her husband in front of the whole bar "you are such a &*^^% husband, you are the worst man EVERRRRR" and I really felt for him, but then I realised its all a show really, they love each other, but like to pretend to the rest of the world its some dysfunctional relationship - think the couple on gavin and stacey who are always arguing! So maybe the man isn't getting that much of a raw deal after all?

just added another 680. My sup told me to write too much, as "its easier to cut out than to add in" - HA I think she is going to super regret saying that. My intro is now about 4000 words - this is for a publication, where the word limit for the whole things are usually about 6000. mwahahahahaha. One more section to do - and then I have to critique it all :-(

not sure about the CAPS - would love to know because I have the same issue.

I use APA format, but it will probably tell you in your PhD guide from your department/uni. I know others that use harvard.

Why are you scared of flying? is it the safety, or the feel of it? I get REALLY air sick - its embarrassing. I'm usually ok on big planes, but was sick the entire flight on one of those 'flying doctor' type planes when i went to africa - it was awful! and I feel really sick on the big planes when they start to spiral near the airport.

I have heard that you can ask the doctor for a sedative which will pretty much knock you out for most of the flight - Mr T style so you may want to try that.

I have no idea what I would say to supervisors - I find I can never say no to anything!

I find my tomatoes a bit restrictive with writing and its more useful for non-writing tasks- I find that the bell rings, just as I have got into the feel of the paragraph. Any ideas?

I will have another go at using it today and see how it goes.

hmm, although I am not so good at taking my own medicine...


- try to work for just 15 mins, you can say to yourself you can stop in 15 mins, so it won't be that stressful, and chances are once you have done 15 mins you will carry one and do an hour or two.
- use my tomatoes to keep you working well.
- write constant lists of things that need doing, one for every day, week, month and year of your phd.

922 today, my most in about 2 months! I am going to have dinner and then hopefully try and come back to the PC and at least TRY and put a plan together for my writing tomorrow. I am hopelessly behind - going to have to do results over the weekend and then cry to my sup and ask for a few more days for discussion I think, which is going to look really bad, but running out of time!

NO! don't quite. Your post suggests that a) you like your PhD and b) you like your first supervisor, but you HATE your second one. Do not let her ruin your life - you will never forgive yourself.

Have a word with your first supervisor and explain that you found her advice to be conflicting/confusing/unrelated to your research - it may well be that the first sup doesn't think much of her either. Its obviously not a personal thing, as you say she has done this to others in your department. It may well be her warped way of motivating you - yes some supervisors do do this! (think gordon ramsey - he rips you apart, tears you down and then builds you back up, so you end up thinking he's god :-( )

I would also have a word with her and ask her what her expectations are about your work, maybe ask her to give you a list of things she expects, and then swamp her with meeting her demands - she will probably soon get bored!

I'm getting confused by double spacing - they seem too long about 250 words each. Do I need to split them up? or is that ok?

hmm, think I will have to go for exercise too. I am feeling super-bloated at the mo (well its not really bloated, like on those yogurt ads, its actually 3D fatness, everywhere!) I have been eating ANYTHING I have felt like for far too long, and have nearly put back on all the weight I lost last year. So although not for lent, after my writing deadline this week, I am going to get back to cycling everyday on my home bike (of course in front of tv!).

I want to take up jogging but HATE people watching me exercise, and I always think I can see curtain twitching as I try and struggle by peoples houses :$ - how do you get past that?
