endnote usually has a few fields that are left empty - I think there are 'comment' fields and 'research note' fields. YOu can also categorise your library. So you have have all the refs in the same library, but mark some of them 'subject x' so you can filter them in searchers, so its easier to find the ones you want on a particular subject.

sorry that's not too clear - you will find this, once you have added the reference, double click to show the whole entry then click in the top right corner to say 'display all fields' and you will see a load of fields that so far have no info in like the ones I mention above.

well I managed to get 3 done in the end. I want to get 5 or 6 done today but also think about my results for my previous study which sup thinks I have nearly written!

I never read without writing - so whenever I read its because I am writing a few pages on the topic. THerefore I don't really need to remember the important points - because i have already written about them. If I do read something I think relates to other areas, then I have microsoft one note open - I whack a little note in (or take a screen print) of the important info. So I have a page in one-note for each area in my lit review, for my method and then for each chapter, and discussion. That way, all those little lightbulb moments don't get lost!

I claim travel expenses, conference accomodation, lots of books (they got a bit arsey about that, but convinced them I couldn't get them anywhere else - although I could have), I bought a dictaphone and also paid for some help with transcription. Apparently it does roll over, so if you only use 350 in your 1st year the 400 rolls over to year 2, so you have 1150 in the second year etc. I have quite a lot to spend now, so waiting to see what I should do with it! I was trying to work out some way, where I would get my husband to do some work for me, under his name and bill me for it, so I can just spend it on me, and chocolates, that's probably fraud though!?

Well done for getting back on the PhD wagon. How about going to see your supervisor and asking her to set out a plan of action for completion - that way she can see you are serious about completing and want to be organised about it. It also means after each mini-deadline she can contact you about it and you can also contact her.

hmm double post

problem is I can;t read them during the day, otherwise I won't get work done and my hubby comes in, wants dinner, clothes washed, then cos he gets up at early o clock he's like "stop reading NOW" so I only have snippets each day and its driving me crazy! I think I might take the whole weekend off and get it out of my system!

If I were a supervisor I would be looking for evidence to show me you would be good at research. So as suggested, an RA position would be great. Also you may want to collude with your ex-supervisor for your MSc research project and look into publishing it. even if it goes into the worst journal ever, at least it shows a passion for research and that you are developing your writing skills etc.

I have got 1 qual analysis done :-( I just can't concentrate. Everythings gone rubbish and haven't got enough time to get anything my sup wants done and running out of excuses! (down)

Doesn't sound like you have done anything wrong - you had to know! I don't have much advice, maybe you could just say you need to get on with your PhD and don't have any time for romance at the mo? and be firm! Or you could make him assume its only a friendship by pointing out girls he might like and then telling him all about your amazing hunky lab partner ;-)

Can someone who is good at maths (and trawling through posts) work out what the scores are so far? - I have lots of important PhD work to be doing to I can't do it!
