I'm actually now in a complete panic over my work. I promised sup I would have a paper written by xmas, but the term finishes next week and I have NOTHING (well a methods bit), and still haven't done analysis. I also have to do another analysis AND get on with some stats and write up all those = 3 papers in total ASAP. I have no real idea what to do first and now its just scaring me. I also have lectures to plan for the new term and loads of non-PhD project people breathnig down my neck. aaaargh!

Hi keenbeen - so sorry to hear about your accident. I hope no one else has been injured! I have been signed off work for a few months, and although I can technically work at home, I can't physically make it to the office. THis means that those little admin jobs I did once a week are very difficult e.g. getting peoples signatures. - for this I am relying on the other people in my office and will just have to buy them a massive box of chocolates if/when I get back.

A lot of my PhD is easy to work on from home. Writing mainly, but I have stats to analyse too. If you are really stuck, then how about writing your work so far into some publications?

JP morgan is a large financial institution. But to be honest, I know an insider there who says they basically shred any CVs from people who haven't been to oxford/cambridge.

ooh, definitely do it! If you don't then you won't build up the experience necessary for the next one you are invited to. The prof will know how experienced you are and take that into account. Do you know what 'assisting' means - it could be just showing people to seats or something anyway. Its not something you should get overly stressed about - if you stop phrasing it as a "prestigious international conference" and more "a few people coming to talk about research" then it will probably be less scary.

I just laughed when I saw scientists were trying to develop these huge sail type things that 'catch' CO2 and then store it under ground - a tree does that but it makes a tree out of it!!
