much that I hate to agree with Clogs, he is right. As a married person and sticking up for my married peeps, I say stay well clear! I would however, not run in to clogs' arms as he is a freak (he has such a high IQ). I would suggest falling in love with someone else - Mr Darcy for instance.

SLAP!!!!

first things first, admit that nothing will ever happen, as you say he is married, not interested, wouldn't do it anyway because of his career.

secondly, I am sure the feelings will go if you miss a deadline or something and he goes mental.

Try to imagine him doing something really gross, like picking his nose and eating it and you will be off him in no time!

tbh, I guess you could just set something similar up in any word processing programme. The only different thing about one note is that it appears like a folder on your screen - with tabs for each page - so like the tabs you would get in a filofax. and also it is always in your windows toolbar. But if you always had the programme running anyway it wouldn't matter

one note looks like:

are yes, tbh I did live on room service - the people in the hotel thought I was a freak haha. Again a book is useful, have you got a nintendo DS or something to take your mind off sitting on your own? maybe you can take a laptop along and look like your havnig a power lunch/meal

well done JoJo! now rest the neck!

I have still done NOTHING. I have eaten a lot though. Going to stick on lily allen again and see if her cockeneee accent will allow me to get on with the analysis. I think I am finding it so hard to work because I have lost my glasses and waiting for ones to arrive, so hopefully productivity will pick up when I have them

hmm do we have the same Mother in Law? Mine got very snooty when her neices hand made a card (they were 8 and 10) and went on for ages about how they couldn't be bothered to buy one and it was "so cheap" - very odd

I tried to do my famous ginger biscuits for the family during xmas to share last year. But I left the gingerbread men out to cool with the icing pens next to them, and my hubby came along and drew rude bits on them :$ - completely ruined, I had to eat them all myself ;-)

conference nerves

I went to an international conference on my own last year. It was quite good, because I wasn't nervous about presenting, as no one knew me!

In terms of actually having to wander around on your own. Take a book or two - one that is appropriate for the conference. I found meal times the worst as everyone sits in little groups and you feel like an american high school kid in the dinner hall, and its very difficult as you don't know which groups speak english and which don't. The key thing is that many people are in the same boat, and a small group of people will not object if you try to speak to them and sit and have lunch etc. and if you really can't do it, then sit with your academically appropriate book.

During the break times you can wander around the posters as well which takes your mind off the fact that you are there on yuor loansome.

For your 'me' time, how about an actual activity like keeping a journal or something?

it depends who they go to. I would love something like this but I know people who are very materialistic to the extent of working our where it was bought, how much it cost to see whether you have spent enough on them :-s

You also have to watch how much it costs you to make them. KNowing me I would mess them up so much that I would get through £££ in ingredients

i use microsoft one note. Its essentially a scrap book on the screen, so you can have different pages for different chapters/theories etc. and you can do anything. Write notes on the screen, put screen prints, links to articles etc. I often use google books, but just want to put one quote to use later - so I screen print, copy it into my one note, and then add the link and a quick note to say what it was about and why I am putting it there. This has proved invaluable! Especially for those brainwave moments, when you just need to get it down, and then find it again 6 months later!

help Ii need some info so I can blag something in a job interview...

my mum went on a medical trial for diabetes tablets - not sure if that counts as she wasn't paid to do it, she was given the option compared to going on the usual ones. I know she really wished she hadn't done it now, but don't really know why. I could ask if you want.

Hi Peckster - I think it all depends on what area of business you are looking to go into. Obviously the civil service has specialist recruitment gateways, such as the government operational research service, or statistics section. I personally am looking at HR type roles, so CIPD would be a good one there. In terms of salary, I think it all depends on whether the PhD is necessary. You will probably find that some recruiters couldn't care less, so you get dumped in with all the graduates, and others will value it highly and you will go in at a higher rate. Regardless of where you go in at, the PhD should help you move through thte ranks quicker than a normal graduate.
