My dad is in a similar trade and its really sad all the book binders are going out of business! I will probably get mine on the net (if it is ever finished!) but am going to get him to do me a special version with loads of gold tooling on it in pretty patterns haha - I think I deserve that much after 3-4 years of work

just to add - If I was the interviewer then I would be looking out for things that would worry me if you got the job, so you would need to demonstrate committment and devotion to the research, being able to work with others and independently. If you highlight these factors then it may calm any fears they have.

what about mentioning things like...

I am very passionate about research but was not fully engaged in the specific topic which I felt I was channelled into and have recently found myself fascinated with TOPIC X. Although I can work very independently I didn't feel I got the support from my supervisory team in order for me to do this.

Realistacally any supervisor is going to see through this - it may be better to tell the truth but try to remain positive about your experience - i.e. don't drag in all the negatives and try not to completely blame others

I have sorted out my presentation this morning! don't think its that good, but am at the point of saying sod it, I don't really care!

have also stopped whirring on computer by hoovering it, and now going to start on with that thematic analysis urgh - its horrible! But I have been motivated by the publication before thesis thread so need to get on!

Not being helped this week by the fact that I have lost my glasses and the screen seems warped

I have decided to focus completely on publishing. I just write each study I do up for publication and am ignoring the thesis so far. I find it much easier to write for publicatio because the intro leads on to what you are doing so much easier, than a kind of stand alone lit review that is supposed to lead on to all your studies. I think my sup says she prefers it anyway as she sees it as better for getting a job afterwards. She also said there is a possibility of handing it in as a publication thesis i.e. 3-4 publications tied together with an overall lit review and discussion.

Done today!

- at least 5 interviews analysed
- Finish off 'hand out' for presentation on thus
- find something businessy to wear for thus (not jeans!)

Tomorrow
am: Finish off presentation for thus completely
Pm: Do another 5 (at leat) interviews
Think about how to use that data (that seems unuseable) for another study

Thanks guys - I will put it together tonight and ask an impartial third person - ok my husband so not really impartial lol. I would rather it be in my own hand out as the book pages would be several pages long as opposed to one a4 sheet.

Its a small group anything between 5-15 and they are a non-academic audience. So I was going to summarise a few pages into a few bullet points. And perhaps say "content taken from Smith (2008)"

I want to provide a handout for a presentation on thus. But the content is essentially going to be advice from a book, almost word for word. Is this ok as long as i put "content from Smith (2008)" or should I just photocopy the original book and hand that out? or is that as bad??? So confused!

thats rubbish - any chance of putting it into another journal??
