Please don't give up! You have soo much data! And you seem like you are interested in the project. this is all part of the PhD proces I'm afraid.

I'm not really in your area, but have you considered doing a simple thematic analysis to see what the key themes are? that is usually a good place to start.


It all depends on what your questions are. It could be that you can use completely different analysis techniques?

Thanks Teek, I was planning on a bit of audience participation. I really do like to hide behind powerpoint though so will be a new (read terrifying) expereince for me!

I could get a portable projecter to go with my laptop, but i have no idea if there will be something to project it on to. Also, as I have a majorly crippled back, I can't physically get these things to the venue. So it looks like I will have to go with some sort of hand out. I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas of how to liven it up a bit, as I won't have such a visual aid as before.

I think it will be a small group 5-15

but I won't have a computer :-( or a projecter screen :-(

I have not been to the venue, so not sure about posters (it might not have walls!) I was thinking about borrowing a projector, but again if there are no walls (or white walls) then there is no hope for me.

I can give print outs yes, but my main fear is that usually I use the screen as something to read off - not verbatim but use it as a cue and I don't want ot be reading off paper the whole time.

lostinoz, please do realise that the PhD is literally a rollercoaster - ok so not literally but you know what I mean. I know that EVERYONE on this forum has had periods even years, when we have hated it, were depressed. But then theere are stages when its going well and everything is alright in the world.

Just thought I would draw your attention to the fact that we are not always so hunky dory!

I have just found out that I have to give a seminar/workshop WITHOUT POWERPOINT! I feel as though my powers have been taken away from me - what about my nice graphs!?

Any tips for how to get by? - its not an academic audience, I'm feeding back my results and giving them tips on how to adapt their lifestyle

I would say its odd that it is coming from your supervisor. Most stipends come from the university or a research council - so maybe he is paying you out of his own grant money or something??

The feeling of going to talk to the snotty woman in an overpriced shop who last year said "I assume its Miss" (now married so more smug mwahahaha) and be able to reply - "well no actually, its Dr"

although will have to try and refrain from changing surname to Who, Death or Nik!
