yep - I became panicked last week about people doing similar work to me so decided that I WILL get my publication written up this weekend, even if its only a first draft to show sup. I have now decided to add some extra stats to it, so working my way through interviews and SPSS today. Hopefully it will mean I can write the results tomorrow and a very quick overview of intro and discussion so I can talk through it with sup and then finish it off in the early part of next week.
Funnily enough I am feeling more in the mood than usual today - must be the actual thought of getting something complete, rather than endless drivel being written down and then forgotten about!
I would have rather been told it was dead than escaped - I would constantly worry about it! My rabbit just disappeared from my completely walled in garden last year. I suppose a cat must have got it, but I still like to think that she is living it up in some kids house being fed loads of scrummy hay. :-x
cobweb - I feel flattered on being such a style icon :p
this is the exact same problem i am having. I think its because I am doing social science and so far have 'got by' by just saying 'he did this, she did that, but then he said this about it, but that's wrong because of this (mr man 2009)'. So I have completely avoided having an opinion.
I am very gradually starting to get round this, just by pretending I am explaining the theories to undergrads and the problems with them. I then write this down as fast as I can and then expand on it. I have literally started doing this this week - so will let you know how it goes!
The worst part is that I really feel that my opinions are not worth anything - I mean, why would someone want to hear what I think about the theories etc!??
do get 'transcription buddy' from download.com it has a 30 day free trial (which you can uninstall and reinstall and start the trial again hehe). It allows you to put in automatic pauses and set the timings
For example, you can set it to..
play 15 secs
rewind 7 secs
pause 3 secs
play 15 secs
So it continually loops and you never have to press pauses - well worth it!
I nearly had a breakdown about 2 weeks ago about my transcribing. I am about a year behind with it. And I went to catch up and found most of the sound files were awful - you can hardly hear the speaker and there is a constant buzz. Luckily my bro is a sound engineer, and cleared them up. I then outsourced them to a friend of mine for abour £20 per transcript. My sup was ok with that (last year when she thought I did them :$ ) so thought it is fine to do now and that means I can get on with other stuff!
hmm - now I make the to do list and then cook for the rest of the family :-s
I have also just received an email that focuses the mind - basically saying people are doing similar work to me, so I am going to get my publication written up by monday!
Unfortunately my lil one actually does catch them very occassionally - it must be her country upbringing . Hopefully she never does it front of kids because I would imagine it would worry them. Although she does despatch them very carefully with a quick shake of the head. It is pretty grim though! :$
well the park was down right embarrassing. I usually go at 7am and forgot there would be THOUSANDS of horrible little kids there yuck. All their parents were tutting at me cos my dog chases squirrels at a very high speed and runs across the footpaths like a maniac. But I think that I don't really like their kids either, so I think we are even.
Woo thanks Wal! Hopefully this thread had reminded people of the helpful user button and to use it more for me :p
stars all round!
OK, well I have decided to send off a few emails I have been meaning to, after taking the dog to the park again - she went for an hour this morning, but looks so cute, I think I will have to take her again (watch out squirrels). And then I am going to make a list of things I have to do tomorrow. Which hopefully will mean I can start tomorrow ticking things off it!
thanks stressed. I still haven't got any work done, and the hoovering is still ongoing, that's over an hour now :-(
I'm worried about tomorrow now too, because I fear it will be another day like today
