- why do you want the role?
- why X university?
- how will you fit into their current research interests
- what modules will you teach on (I was asked this once)
- what is your plan for publication
- what are your ideas for future research
- how do you intend to keep/improve the university's student satisfaction results.
- What would you do if..... (e.g. a student was caught plagarising or similar).
- How will you bring funding into the department (think of key grants, and other funding sources).
- How will you represent the university (e.g. conferences etc.).

my hubby's viva was about 2 hours, so not that long. It included a 20 min presentation. I waited nervously outside for him though and I knew it wouldn't take that long because his sup had scheduled it for 12, so I knew they'd get hungry and want to stop before lunch!

Goal 1: do all those horrible admin jobs I've been putting off.

urgh I got roped into picking a child up from school, and then taking her to get her haircut and then babysitting her, cooking food for her and finally getting her into bed by 20 past 7, only to open my laptop to find a list of horrible emails from my sup asking me to do....work!? - urgh! :p so been doing that, rather than my PhD :-s

I find myself agreeing with Delta. I love research, I like working on my own and deciding what to do myself, but I hate my research area, although I find it interesting, its not a strong passion of mine and I personally think you could have given me any subject and I would have researched it with the same motivation.

I think what I get from the original post is that it isn't true that you have to be passionate about the subject in order to get on and get it done.

I was told numerous times that the PhD would 'be a long hard journey' - and that it's impossible to finish in 3 years. I haven't. But I sometimes think if I hadn't had people telling me all about this journey and how hard it was, that actually I probably would have just got on and got it done without all these expectations that it has to be some huge soul-changing process.

I'm having a lot of trouble stepping back from the research. I find that I'm assuming the reader know stuff, just because I do. BUt I don't have anyone who can read it for me - my sup won't until its all done and my hubby jus says "yeh, looks fine to me" and my mum will just check for spelling and typos, she won't actually read the content. gah!

I thought that said sky diving then, instead of skiving - and I actually thought 'no I'd rather I was doing my PhD' - I've finally gone mad.

Just had my elevenses - kitkat and a cup of tea :-) back to work!

I'd just try to phone an admin team and ask if he's retired or not - if he's of that age. Admin always know everything in my experience!

My goal today is to get my study 1 done. Its got to the point where its dragging now and I just need to get it done!

Goal 1: find glasses and stop rubbing my eye (got SPF 50 in it this morning).
Goal 2: finish intro.

its the intro to my chapter I'm having trouble with. I feel like I'm repeating chunks of my lit review :-(

Just had to drive my hubby to his 'local' with his dad, brother, brother in law and uncles, which is actually 35 mins away, then 35 mins back, and I'll apparently get a call at somepoint, estimated at 11.30pm asking me to drive over there again to pick them up and drop them off at various houses along the way home. I want to get some work done, so may interpret 'come and get me now' as 'come and get me in an hour' :-s

I want to get my intro done before 'the call'
