What's the line on swearing? I have the words a***hole and b*tch in a quote - I want to use it, do I ** them or just leave them be. I feel a bit rude leaving them!

are you allowed to just go to a hotel and leave the kids to get on with it? :p THis is why I shouldn't be a parent.

I have two main superstitions...

1) I won't let myself write my acknowledgements until the very last moment

and

2) I won't let myself 1.5 space my writing (I write in 1 space to begin with), until I've finished a section.

mine has brown and white fur, but the brown grows quicker than the white (I have no idea how), so she looks like a fluffball if it gets long, we also get told off for letting her get fat :-s - when we shave her she loses about half her body size and looks v trim now! Also, more pressingly, there is the issue of grass seeds, which are less of a worry when she's got a shorter coat. We trim her with a livery trimmer (I think its for horseys - maybe Natassia will know) - its the only thing that will cut through her brown fur.

yeah, I spotted I'd put cammomile - I think I was thinking of the tea in the Peter Rabbit stories? Don't they (flopsy, mopsy and cottontail) all go to bed with cammomile tea? 8-)

it is normal - we have to shave her (well clip her) about 4 times a year and she was looking really fluffy and we're seeing family at the weekend so shaved her today - she'll get a bath tomorrow.

oh dear, chicken pox isn't fun. I'd fill the bath with cammomile lotion. I think my parents said they painted it on me with a paint brush when I got chicken pox!

Anyway, I'm faffing about with quotes today - I'd really like to get the findings section done tonight as I'm basically losing tomorrow doing ironing and packing to go away, although I have managed to shave the dog today, which has cut down one thing to do tomorrow :-)

How about doing something like

"fish really have been a life saver for many penguins at the south pole, of course penguins are also chocolate bars, and you can nibble the ends off and dip them in tea and suck the tea through them, anyway, the fish provide penguins with yummy food"

Can I change that to..

ok, so now I'm stuck with quoting etiquette. I have a really good quote, with a load of faff in between so e.g.

Can I change that to..

"fish really have been a life saver for penguins at the south pole...the fish provide penguins with yummy food"

Or is that taking it out of context and being a bit naughty with the data?

well I want to keep it to 12000 or under really, will report back and see where I've got!

well, I wrote the chapter up for publication and it was about 6000 in total. BUT I'm now going back, I've extended the method and analysis a lot, this is mainly because qualitative in my field isn't as well known as quantitative and even my sup - who does qual work, is asking me why I haven't calculated inter-rater reliability etc. even when I explain that actually my work isn't quantifiable like that, so I've needed a lot of words to explain the process. Method and analysis currently stands at 2,600.

Findings - I have 5 themes, so far I've done 2 and its 2,400, so that's over 5,000 already, without intro (although that will be short as it leads straight from lit review), or discussion!
