I'm writing up my qualitative findings - bear in mind that this is only 1 out of 3 studies in my thesis.

The word count looks like its getting long. Much of this is quotes, but I feel like they make the explanations much richer and provide context to the list of themes I have.

How long do findings sections tend to be? :$

Had dinner, so my next goal is to complete 1/5 of my findings section.

I've just had a quick lurk on a friends page and she's following someone who is an independent researcher, so maybe its doable!

on their FAQ it looks like you can affiliate yourself with more than one uni, so I guess you could affiliate yourself with wherever you did your PhD/work etc.

ooh I got the impression you could sign up as an independent person, like you would on facebook. hmm not sure??

Thoughts?

In my department people seem to think its a bit, I dunno, arrogant maybe or just a bit pushy to be on it. But I'm starting to think (as I'm applying for jobs and our uni website is dire and we can't update it so I've basically got a biog from 2006), that I might make a profile on there.

Snowe - make sure you use dropbox and back it up to an external hard drive.

right - feeling motivated now after speaking to a friend about vivas. I need to go for a dog walk, and then I'll come back and read through my findings section - I've written it for publication so it needs to be extended and pulled together a bit (messing about with it basically).

My hubs' thesis was shutting down word when he put it all together. I think anything over about 100 pages and word does a flip out and decides to spend ages thinking about stuff and then shutting down :-s

well its normal, in that laptops do it, but it shouldn't. Do you use it on a table? or on your lap?

You may want to buy a cooling tray for it - I think you can get cheap ones in asda etc nowadays.

I listen to classical music while I work - but not 'old' classical music as I used to be in quite a lot of orchestras and end up mime-playing along haha! So I tend to listen to the scores from movies. At the moment its the scores from new moon and twilight :$ :$ :$ :$

I think I've finished my analysis section. I'm a bit worried as its about 3000 words long for method and analysis (this is just one study), not sure if its a bit long, but it is a thematic analysis, so will stick with it for now and let sup delete as she sees fit. I suppose its better to start off with more rather than less?

my hubby only spent 2 days preparing for his viva - much to my dispair! He just looked over his complicated stuff - made sure he'd calculated it all ok (its maths based), and he also had to prepare a 20 min presentation. So he threw some slides together in about 20 mins, I made him practice it twice and he was done. And he passed with about 4 bullet point corrections like, one which was "this table needs to be on 1 page, not over 2" and similar - so annoying isn't it!?

I'm stuck on the reliability bit of my analysis. I did a kind of focus group, but it was really presenting my findings, rather than asking for the participants to query them - so don't want to get into it too much eek. Have no idea what to write that won't be digging myself a hole for examiners to rip me apart for!
