oh dear, I've had another few days out. I need to get back into it, spurred on with hubs final bound thesis arriving - I want one too!

Goal 1: get analysis section done (yes I'm still doing that analysis section!)

I generally stick to tables of results or results in the text, but I do have 2 line graphs in my 2nd study. I also use SEM in my final study so have diagrams to represent the results, otherwise it would be scary how difficult to understand it would be.

My sup is a bit crazy over keeping all research private - she even gets me to hold back on conferences, and leave the 'juicy' bits for publication. She's been burned in the past though, so I imagine that's why. It has taught me to be really cautious about telling anyone what I'm doing specifically - I've even had one girl trying to copy some of my research which is a bit scary.

Anyway, can you make the blog private (I have no idea on technology!) or how about using microsoft one note?

I have a buffering effect - and I have to talk about the effect of the buffer and it frequently (actually I've just done it again typing this) comes out with two gs rather than fs :-)

sounds painful. I'd go home to your parents, its times like these where you need someone who's going to mollycoddle you a bit :-)

You could just try and do an hour or 2 or reading or something per day so the time isn't completely taken off?

SPSS for qualitative or SPSS in general? Yes I've used it in general, but I think maybe I remember Walminski using the qualitative program they have - can't remember

I did use Nvivo, but tbh, find it a bit rubbish and v expensive. I suppose if your thesis is all qualitative then its worth it maybe? but I used mixed methods.

I found, in the end, it was easier to use the comment function in word to highlight areas of the text and code them and then you can print 'comments only' or something and then code it manually.

So the box thing is fine - I'm pleased because I'm describing the analysis and wanted to put an example in, but didn't know where to put it in the text, so just saying "see Box 4.1 for an example of coded text" will be great :-)

job applications are a nightmare aren't they? my hubby has banned me from doing them now - he says get the thesis done, handed in, then apply, as I was spending weeks doing cover letters and interview prep etc and then not getting jobs.

A question: any opinion on 'boxes' in the thesis? I want to put in an exampe of an interview transcript e.g. 200 words and how I coded it. In a textbox I think this would be ina box e.g. 'see box 1'. - or is it a figure???

Odd day today. I have to go out at 12-2 for a discussion/interview/meeting about this other role. After that I have to come back and iron 5 shirts and then drive them up to london, leave them there, collect husband, drive him back so basically 2-evening is a no-go for PhD work.

So goal 1 before 12 = to get part of the analysis section done - and yes, I am STILL working on the analysis section :-(

The uni doesn't do it - they said to go to the only one in our area, so am going there tomorrow to see how much, but wanted to compare prices and speed etc. with an online one. Much that I want to support local business, I don't want to pay over the odds for it. I've also been to the bookbinders in question and I get the impression they will grumpily tell me that it will be a month or something before its ready, so thought if I could line up an online alternative it would be v useful.

its for hubs' one - he's submitted corrections in a soft-bound rubbish copy, all has been signed off so he's been told he now needs to submit a hard-covered, sewn version or something i.e. 'posh'. haha.
