ok - I think I've got it. I've had to break a sentence, probably not best practice, and also leaves me with a green wiggly line at the top of the page after the diagram. BUt hey ho.

I'm assuming all of this will go to pot when I have the entire thesis together anyway, so not going to spend too much time stressing about it at the mo.

My hubs one was only 200 pages all-in, and word just ground to a halt everytime you opened it. NOw I'm not sure whether to do it as separate chapters or one big document - I suppose the latter given the issues with references?

I have 2 pages of writing in portrait. Then I want there to be a landscape page with a diagram on, and then back to the writing in portrait.

However, there is no 'nice' point to break the text, so I want to just have it so the text continues from before > after the diagram but can't work out how to break up the document so that happens?

Can anyone help? is this making any sense at all?

had an awful day today, couldn't get focussed, just restless. I've just managed to do a paragraph though, which is RUBBISH but at least something done! I promised my sup that I'd send her the first 3 chapters (out of 6) by sunday, so I really need to get this chapter done tomorrow really - I need about 1 day work on the other 2.

Hopefully I will wake up and be able to do load of work tomorrow.

haha, my sup is EXACTLY the same! I'm supervising dissertations this year and wondering if I'm the same now! haha.

My advice - ignore everything she says until the last possible moment.

my mother in law entrusted me with the gardening when she gave us the house (don't worry, she gave us the full mortgage to pay off too, in fact she remortgaged it in our name for more than she paid, anyway, I digress) and she said I must pull out the weeds. I asked how I could tell which ones were weeds, as I'm not garden-savvy. She said that weeds are ones that haven't been planted. I hadn't planted any of the plants, so pulled them all up :p

congrats Moonblue! I once tried to grow a basil plant - it was going really well, for about 3 months :-) but then it got these little flies all over it and it died. I've never tried to grow anything again, and have since gone out and bought a hedge trimmer so I get my hubby to cut anything down that attempts to grow in my garden so I'm not faced with the responsibility of keeping it alive. :p

same thing every day - I mess about all morning, and then suddenly my mind becomes calm and I can get on with it. WHy is that?? wish I could start work sooner every day!

oh no! I hate email like that - I'm applying for jobs and I want to put my uni one on there - because 1/it looks like I may be employed not just a layabout and 2/looks better than hotmail etc.

but I'm scared I'll apply for a load of jobs and then miss the communication because uni decide to pull my email away from me. :$

What I've found is that, while I had a lit review written, I needed to do all the analysis so that I knew 'the story'. THis has resulted in me finding 1-2 key messages that the entire thesis is about, which of course, has meant re-working my lit review (which I'm doing now, hopefully 2months before submission). So I agree with the sups, likelihood is that you'll re-work most of what you've written, add to it, scrap bits, change what you emphasise etc but you'll only know where/how to do that when you know what the overall message of the thesis is, which comes, in part, from your empirical work.

Late start today :$ I spent up until 2am reading a website with funny emails, probably not the best way to get the thesis done! Anyway, I'm at the stage where I'm re-working, re-worked work and I hate it, I'd much prefer, really to just write it all from scratch, but it has to be done.

Goal 1: re-read what I wrote yesterday to get my mind back in the right place
Goal 2: Main goal for today is to finish 2nd huge section of lit review - this means stealing literature from one of my chapters, which I don't wnat to do but sup said I must, so I guess I must :-s Just waiting to see how thin and short the chapter will be when I've done that! I guess that's for another day though.

ooh I want a full draft :-( I'm starting to feel like the whole thing is way too difficult.

Anyway, I'm trying to get this section done, and I want to get it done before the apprentice!
