urgh! I am trying to reduce a 5k section down to 2k - everything seems too important to cut and its proving very difficult to do on the screen and I have no printer where I'm working! :-s

problem is my sup said my methods one was so good it may go before the other one - which I hate the idea of! So she's compromised and I have to lever in the theoretical stuff throughout the 1st chapter lit-review chapter too.

So I have 1st lit review chapter = there are xyz things that influence dog barking (oh and by the way they were researched like this)

and 2nd lit review chapter = these are the main ways dog barking has been researched.

actually yes, I've written an 8,000 methods chapter and you could perhaps say that about 5000 of that is another lit review, just focusing on theoretical approaches rather than the actual findings if that makes sense.

I had this last week, its gone a bit cold and overclouded today though.

I am longing to finish the thesis and play Mario Galaxy 2 on the wii though. :-x

erm, I'm just writing mine (in my 4th year!) - give me til the end of the week and I'll let you know. I'm aiming for about 10-12k though.

I wouldn't worry too much about it not being a big enough area. THere is A LOT of research on wellbeing in organisations and its ever increasing. I know a lot of academics who are researching in the area, designing interventions like you're looking at doing and I know people who make a lot of money off consulting organisations about how to improve the health and wellbeing of their employees. So fear not!

If its your masters then I wouldn't get too hung up on it - I guess it depends on your tutors, its not something that our MSc students acknowledge really.

it seems like a bizarre predicament. I very very much doubt that it will be an Mphil or fail - I mean people get downgraded to an Mphil when the quality or quantity is just not there for a PhD. That is clearly not the case with your thesis!

I suspect the external had a holiday planned or something, didn't have enough time to read it etc. and doesn't realise the amount of chaos created by this decision.

I'd much rather have a lengthier thesis than a shorter one - the amendments would just be 'delete this section' rather than 'spend 6 months writing xyz'.

I can imagine the horrible draining feeling of just waiting, I can only advise concentrating on something utterly silly for a few days e.g. playing a computer game or something :-)

yeah, 'influencers' isn't even a word is it?? d'oh! its what I want to say though :-(

I've settled for 'factors influencing [dog barking]' but its not really as snappy as I wanted it to be.

thanks bilbo, the biggest problem is changing 45k words which is basically lots of 7k chunks on different topics, into a coherent, well argued 10k chapter. I think its much harder than writing originally :-(
