@Batfink - I think I get what I'm doing, its just the data has a lot missing. AMOS doesn't deal with missing data very well unless you impute it (and then I have no idea what I'm doing). Mplus - which is more like doing it in SPSS syntax works with missing data....but I haven't got the program and can't afford the £100 it costs (especially as this isn't my PhD work!)

I have to do some analysis today, but I also need to get some other work done before hubby comes home tomorrow evenign (as would be nice to spend some time with him as not seen him since sunday)

Goal 1: work out what I'm supposed to be doing :p

I've spent the last two nights reading Midnight sun into the small hours :$ finished it now :-( need more teenage vampire fiction! :$

ah yeah, the ones I listed are ones I can actually afford. I'd love to do lots of other stuff like actually have a floor in my house, buy another dog :-x and go to austrailia when its not raining (do you think Sue is ok??)

because of 'PhD guilt' I have saved up a load of (albeit quite geeky) things i want to do once my thesis is complete. Its a distant dream but so far....

- complete Super Mario Galaxy on the wii
- complete Super Mario Galaxy 2 on the wii
- spend 2 weeks watching dvds non-stop.
- do one of those go ape thingys if I can get past the image of me in a harness :$

Batfink - I thought SPSS does PCA, but that is exploratory factor analysis. We've done that bit, now we're confirming that model with a bigger sample - so I think you're supposed to tell the computer what your model is and it tells you whether its ok. PCA just tells you a model, not one you've specified if that makes sense.

You can do it on AMOS, but I have a ton of missing data and its not dealing with it well, or Mplus, which I can't get hold of without paying £100 :-(

my supervisor wants me to run a confirmatory factor analysis in SPSS - I thought that was impossible?

ooh hubs has just had a call to go to an itnerview on monday, which is v exciting as he hates his current job :-) got all my fingers and toes crossed he gets it!

I don't think that's right. Even the best PhD has a chance of failing, if only due to nasty politics between examiners and supervisors etc. I've heard of people failing because an examiner just didn't like it, no matter how good it was. (depressing eh?)

ETA: I think that if you have anything published from your PhD - especially in good journals, then you have a much better chance of succeeding, mainly because you've had peer review already AND you've got more confidence when you walk into your viva

feeling cold today because there's a base of a treadmill stopping me closing my home office door - its far too heavy to lift so having to sit with a hot water bottle. Sup just phoned with tons to do, although I've got a little bit further with the non-PhD work (the other non-PhD work)

hmm, I'm not sure if you can export from google scholar - maybe someone else can confirm?

I use endnote, but only because its what I started the PhD with. If I had my time again I'd use Mendely because I've not heard a bad word against it, it sounds amazing and great to use if you work in multiple locations e.g. home, work, cafe etc.

I'm getting on with some work finally - not PhD though.

I've also got the urge to completely blow off the day and sit and watch all three twilight movies. I am Sneaks and I have OCD (Obsessive Cullen Disorder) :-(

up bright and early - well ish. Need to walk the dog and then carry on with work from yesterday before my supervisor calls to tell me what I need to do today.
