I had a really bad headache yesterday. Went to bed with a really painful stomach, woke up with neither and now the headache is back :-(

anyway.

Goal 1: done. I've not got until monday free for PhD work.

Goal 2: have lunch. - oh I just realised its only 11.50. Oh well, I'll have lunch anyway as am feeling really dizzy and think it may be hunger.

Anyone protesting today?

Anyone?

I'm at home and cold, but now I feel like a sell out 'old person' for not protesting just a little bit :$

Morning..

I have a bit of RA work to finish this morning, but its eating into my PhD time, so it needs to be done by lunchtime at the latest.

so Goal 1: get on and finish RA work!

Twitter

I have literally just started using twitter yesterday. Mainly because of the utterly crap communication from southeastern trains and twitter users seem a more reliable source of info than the NRE and southeastern websites. Not really sure on all the # and @ things though. I feel old.

Re-installing windows

oh god my hubby does that. e.g.

Me: do you know how to do multilevel modelling
him: yeah sure
Me: really
Him: (exasperated) YESSSS of course I know - give me your data
---3 months of faffing about---
Me: you don't know how to do it do you
Him: well, I would have been able to do it if the data wasn't in columns (or equally stupid excuse)

Good luck!

didn't get all the work I needed done yesterday - but did a lot.

Goal 1: put more variables in data set.

Goal 2 done. and a few goals in between

Next Goal: summarise who's completed my questionnaire.

Referencing
Avatar for sneaks

just to add, I always try and write so 'an intelligent layman' could understand my work - so if people on the street don't know what you're saying as common sense/commonly known, then I'd reference

Referencing
Avatar for sneaks

not in your subject area (biology???/chemistry???) but I would tend to reference the things you are saying - they are only 'common knowledge' because someone once tested it. I would tend to only put 1 or 2 references just to say there is evidence to back up what you are saying.

if there are loads of potential references, I sometimes put "e.g." like...

people say chocolate is addictive (e.g. Sneaks 2010)

Brunel or Bath?
Avatar for sneaks

I grew up near bath and went to college there. It is a wonderful city - i would definitely recommend it. Brunel (I've only been there once for 3 hours) I found very bleak and a bit of a pain to get to and from central london (although I suppose bath is no better, but at least you have a ton of shops on your doorstep and Brizzle close by).

Not too sure about who's best for sport, but i know bath have a great reputation - don't they have a football team in the leagues?

oh I have a fully working heating system, but for some reason when I sit in my home office - the heat just disappears so the boiler is on all day. If I sit in the living room the boiler is off most of the time becuase the room keeps the heat in - so is cheaper. I'm now watching the wright stuff :$

Goal 1: DOne

Goal 2: compute subscales for each group

urgh I didn't get much work done yesterday. Mainly not helped by the fact that the only room that is warm and stays warm (therefore saving £££ on heating) is the living room - and I've been heating it with the tv being on :$

But its only data stuff - no 'thinking' as such so I have no excuse.

Goal 1: reverse code scoring.

SPSS Syntax anyone?
Avatar for sneaks

my eagerness about syntax has caused me to double post :-(

SPSS Syntax anyone?
Avatar for sneaks

Is there any command that allows me to save output as variables in my data set?

I need to make an average of 5 participants scores, but then save it into the data set. at the mo I'm stuck copying and pasting from SPSS output > excel > SPSS

Which is rubbish!

My hubby could do it all on excel I suppose, but he's at work - stupid work :-s and I'd like to know if its possible for future reference anyway.
