Wow Batfink you got an early start!

I actually got my days mixed up and thought I was going away with my BIL and SIL on Sunday but got a call from them at 10.30 on Saturday saying they were on their way to pick me up. Whoops! My partner's father is having an operation today so I'm hoping it all goes well.

Anyways I have realised that I have 4 1/2 weeks to write my methodology and literature chapters! Everything is more or less half done. Eeek. My first goal is to draft out one section of my methodology.

Morning all. I had a bit of a bad night as I have had a couple of things going on this week and had some bad news yesterday. But this morning I am going to try and focus and get some work done as I am taking tomorrow and Monday off to go and see my partner's family.

My first goal is to edit and pad out the sections on my methodology.

Yep, I am using the time while he is away to really focus and put the hours in.

I have now done my first goal (and had a 2 1/2 hour long lunch break to go to the gym!).

My next goal is to work through the 'procedures' section.

Morning! My partner went away on Wednesday and is flying out to Thailand this morning so it is just me, my introductory chapters and the cat for the next couple of weeks!

Today I am tackling my methods chapter which is half written. My first goal is to pad out and tidy up my 'data set' section.

Good luck Batfink!

I have now written 700 words on my topic and it is starting to be clearer to me. My next goal is to read a couple of book chapters and refresh myself on some reading I did a while ago so I can begin writing up a new topic tomorrow morning.

My first goal is done (chapter still needs dramatic rewriting but I'm dealing with it gradually).

My next goal is to write a section on a particular topic that I had trouble with yesterday.

the truth about journal submission?

I wouldn't worry about that Huhu. It depends largely on the commitments of the reviewers. I submitted a paper recently and was told in advance that it would take longer than the usual month for reviewer comments because the editor struggled to find someone and the third person he asked couldn't do it until May. Nothing to do with the actual paper itself.

My first goal this morning is to work on rewriting one of my data chapters. I will address all the fairly superficial comments from my supervisor.

Well I tried writing up a particular section but realised that I really still need to get my head around it so I have been doing a bit of reading.

I have a huge list of books that I need now that I'm working on my literature review so I am going to head out to the library, go to the gym and then hit the books again early this evening.

Yep good point Batfink. I'm putting a lot of pressure on myself to finish in the 3 years and it is going to be really tight and I am finding it difficult to have guilt free time off and to relax. But I should focus on having achieved my goals for the day rather than working 'enough' hours.

My goal for the morning is to write 500-600 words.

1050 words written. I feel guilty about finishing work so early when I am in the last few months of writing up but I am completely burned out.

It is good that you are being reflexive and working out why you have been struggling, Batfink.

I have now achieved my first goal. It took a fair bit longer than I expected but it was worthwhile. There are about 3 areas which I haven't started writing up yet so my goal for the rest of the day is to get a chunk done on one of these. I am aiming for 700-1000 words by the end of the day.

Morning everyone. I hope everyone finds work a bit easier today. getting into things in Mondays can be difficult!

My first goal today is to write out a plan for my literature chapters (I have it mostly planned out in my head!) and to email it to my supervisor in case there are any huge gaps I haven't thought of.

I think it depends on a couple of things- 1. Has your supervisor already seen drafts of each chapter? By the time I submit a full first draft my sup will already have seen each chapter and he expects not to be suggesting huge changes by that point. But if your sup is seeing the chapters for the first time and is making a lot of comments it might take a while.
2. Have you agreed a deadline for you to submit the work? If you have done so in advance I'd expect comments back earlier than if I hadn't. The best thing is probably to agree a timescale in advance.

I did an inventory of the stuff I already have written and actually have a lot already drafted out. I identified a couple of gaps so rather than banging out more words I have spent the morning reading around one topic, and my next goal is to spend the afternoon reading around another so that tomorrow I can start writing.
