Morning all. My first goal today is to edit the second half of my analysis.

Batfink, remember it's important to have time off, because otherwise your brain can't possibly absorb all of the knowledge you pour into it (or something)!

Emaa.. your husband is cheesed off about being home alone while you have a French class?!

Anyways. My third goal is now done. Woohoo! Although I do need to look over everything with fresh eyes before I submit anything. Now on to preparing some stuff for supervision on Thursday.

Right, my goals today are:

1. Spend a good chunk of time sorting out the analysis section of my chapter.- DONE
2. Add some more stuff to my research proposal.- Half done. I am completely stuck on writing a timetable (I am thinking of making out like I am going to write a book if awarded a 3 year postdoc prize, as if) so will wait and ask my supervisor for advice on Thursday.
3. Finish filling out application forms.
4. Do a small task which my supervisor asked me to do before our meeting on Thursday.

Well done! That's a really great achievement in that amount of time!

Wow I don't believe your heating still isn't fixed! That's terrible.

I am done with my application forms for now (still one section which needs doing, but need to look over some stuff which is at home before doing this).

My next goal is to spend until 3.30 starting a conclusion for my chapter (the conclusion is my favourite bit to write because it means the end is in sight!). Then I'll pop into the library before going to the gym.

Job application form question

Thank you for your help! Good point about them probably not looking at both my CV and the form- afterall they'll only look at one or the other to start off with. I think I'll include my conferences in the research record section then.

A brief overview of modules covered in my MRes also seems like a good idea because I covered a lot of stuff in the taught section. It's all quite time consuming but once I've written a bulletpoint list like you have I can use that in future applications (I think I'll be completing a lot of applications over the next year or so ( :-( )

Thank you!

Job application form question

Hey guys, I am filling out an application form for a junior research fellowship and have a quick question (it is the most detailed form I've filled out to date and I need to make sure I get it right!).

There is one section on the form for my 'research record' which says 'please give details of your research record, including dates, institution, topic and degree'. And there is a seperate section for published work.

For my research record I have put down my PhD and my MRes, and a sentence explaining the topic of each. Does that seem right?

Anyway my real question is should I include conference presentations in either of these sections? They aren't published work so don't seem like they should go in that section. Should I include them in the research record section?

They are on my CV and I have to submit a copy of that, so maybe I shouldn't include them at all?

TIA!

Happy Monday everyone.

I have been teaching all morning and now have a few bits and pieces to get done, rather than attempt anything too heavy!

My first goal is to complete two application forms for postdoc funding.

I had the longest lunch break ever with the in laws and am now really struggling to get back into work! My final goal for the day then is to time my presentation, cut it down and tidy up my slides.

Good luck with the intro Natassia.

My first goal is done. It still needs some stuff cutting out because it's too long but I need to rehearse it out loud and time it and my brother in law is here at the moment so I'll leave that for another time...

My second goal is to tidy up one section of analysis.

Is anyone joining me today?

I meant to start work earlier because I'm going out for lunch with the in laws but couldn't get up early. :-(

My first goal is to redraft a conference presentation, following comments from a couple of staff who I practiced with yesterday.

9am till 5pm, sufficient?

What Sneaks said. I'm also in social sciences and try and work for 7 hours a day and try to do so consistently. Quite often I find that I burn out before the 7 hours so if I'm honest I don't quite manage it sometimes! I can never bring myself to do much at the weekends (maybe the odd couple of hours on a Saturday morning occasionally), but know people who do. This makes me feel a bit guilty sometimes but my way of working has worked for me so far and I'm on track to submit within the three years.

I think the key is consistency, and also making sure that time spent working, largely, is focused time.

OK I sat down to work a while ago but keep getting distracted looking around and thinking about postdoc funding...

So my first goal is to spend 4 tomatoes working on my chapter.

Meeting with research group done. My goals for the rest of the day are to attend meeting with careers advisor and to finish writing the section I am currently working on.

Goals 1 & 2 done. I now have 50 minutes to do a bit of writing before I have lunch and then attend meeting with research group. Things are starting to feel a little less hectic...
