Pink numbers, I know how you feel. I've had a rubbish week too and it's mainly my fault, rather than because of getting distracted by things. All I did yesterday afternoon was read for a couple of hours and then finish early to go and lie in the sun :$

First goal today is to spend the next 2 hours working on my conference paper.

Goal 1 done. Well, I didn't end up working on analysis but instead realised I should make a start on a paper for a conference I have coming up, so managed to make a good start on that. (up)

Now I'm going to work out (may help with my grogginess as I only have a cold afterall) and then lunch.

Morning all.

I'm feeling a bit groggy and ill but have done bugger all work this week so need to get on with things. First goal is to spend between now and 11.30 working on analysis.

My next goals are to chase up a couple of references and to find out about putting a publication into my universities institutional respository.

Greetings everyone!

Today is my first day back after a long weekend visiting family, and I am feeling like crap because I'm coming down with something. ugh.

First goal for the day is to input last weeks reading into Zotero.

Morning all! I don't have that much time today, I am doing a professional development course this afternoon and promised to go into town for lunch beforehand.

So this morning my goal is to do 5 tomatoes working on analysis.

Goal 2 is done. Put one collection together faster than expected and realised that I more or less put the other collection together a while back.

My next goal is to work on some analysis for the next 2 hours.

Got my first 2 tomatoes and lunch out of the way.

My next task is to put together 2 collections of phenomena. This is extremely tedious so for now my goal is to work on it until 2pm.

You seem to be working hard Pinknumbers, I hope you get to take a break this afternoon!

I was out early this morning for supervision at 9. My first goal for today now that I'm back home is to focus for 2 tomatoes, type up some notes from supervision and start to act on things which came up with my analysis.

Staying fit while doing a PhD

I don't think there's anything special about a PhD vs a full time job which makes it difficult to exercise and eat well.

To avoid snacking on unhealthy food, make sure you have a good breakfast, get to know your body and when you are likely to get hungry and snack on something healthy before you get to the point of being starving and eating crap. Don't take unhealthy food into work with you so you can't eat unhealthy things while you're there. Take your own lunch into work with plenty of fruit & veg rather than buying it there as you're more likely to make unhealthy choices.

With exercise its just a case of doing what you can and getting into a habit. How about doing something on Saturdays and Sundays and having one or two earlier mornings to exercise before work?

As others have said, batch cooking and slow cookers are your friend. I tend to defrost meals so I'm not faffing around cooking on nights when I spend time exercising.

Maybe waffles will be better for a treat after work rather than breakfast then!

Quite slow myself today. I stopped writing and had lunch half an hour earlier than planned because I ran out of steam with it. I plan to spend the rest of the afternoon reading, because I haven't read anything for about a month. And I will make sure that I make it through 14 tomatoes today.

A very slow start with my writing (spent some time bidding on a dress on Ebay, and it took me an hour to write 50 words) but got 300 words done which isn't bad. Next goal is to continue writing until I stop for lunch at 1.

I have completed my first goal and sent transcripts to my supervisor.

Next goal is to do some writing. I will do this until 12 and then see where I'm at.

Morning!

I failed with my goal to read 2 papers yesterday afternoon. I was sooo tired and couldn't focus. Anyway.

Today's first goal is to sort out some extracts to take to supervision tomorrow, and to email them to my supervisor. And to phone and cancel a course I'm booked on to do tomorrow morning when the office opens at 9.30, because I realised I am double booked.
