Aaaw, that's too bad. Maybe the team will make a bunch of grapes smiley for you? Surely that would make it all worthwhile? Thinking about you...

I have put hundreds of references into refworks, but as yet haven't tried to create a bibliography...and I don't think I'm going to. I know the general opinion on here is that you'd be crazy not to use some kind of software, but I'm okay with the idea. I mean, how long can it take???

I haven't actually started proper writing up yet, but I don't think what you described (crying, panic attacks etc) are signs that you're losing it. I think it's just the huge amount of stress. And from the rest of your post it seems that your brain is totally caught up with your thesis - nothing else. I think you need a break, plain and simple. Do you have an upcoming deadline that means you absolutely can't, say, take the weekend off? (with NO WORK) And eat some brazil nuts, they calm you down...

yep, I got a first but was registered as MPhil for the first year.

404, yes, okay, cats are pretty independent. I had one when I was younger. I also had goldfish - I know it's silly but no matter how big the tank they still hit (hopefully not literally) a glass wall at the end...

For me, doing a PhD is totally incompatible with having a pet - I'm out every day from 7.30 until 5.30, and much as I'd love to have an animal friend, I can't think of any that I wouldn't feel guilty about abandoning all day - or 'confining' (cage, tank, whatever) for that matter.
