You say 'AFTER MUCH PRESSURE your supervisor decide to write a proposal' - this is a bad sign. You're probably going to have to pressurize your sup every time you need something throughout the course of your PhD, and he'll end up hating you, which will make life even more difficult. This supervisor should be given a student who doesn't want to work!

We never did get (parsnip). There was something else... - if you don't remember this one you'll never guess it though.

Yeah, this one will come in handy all year round too. But I'm sure I could think of uses for say, (hadn't been used for a while)

juno: I'm trying to cut out meat too, for a similar reason, I just don't like the thought of it anymore. I think what I like most about food is FLAVOUR, and I don't think I'd miss meat at all, it's just that for every veggie option you're offered in the shops there are about 50 meat options - take lunchtime for an example. The sandwich shops up the street from my building all proudly display their vegetarian options on the board, but do they actually have them? no! I get so sick of it, I wander around at lunchtime looking for something I actually want to eat

This is easy for me to say (not having fought for my PhD position - I don't know your story), but unless this is THE project/supervisor/uni you want I would look elsewhere. It doesn't sound like your supervisor is at all interested, the normal greeting that you mention sounds like he has completely forgotten all about you and (with three and bit years of experience under my belt) I wouldn't touch him with a bargepole (I LOVE that expression). Could be wrong.
