No, oz. "What's the word for the word we type" - the word in brackets that is specific to a certain smiley. What's THAT called?

That's a strange rule - haven't heard it before. I can sort of understand how it would apply to a humanities student though. Glad you're not so panic(k?)ed now.

Did you get sorted Jay2007? I think you said elsewhere your PhD is in history, so I can't really understand your supervisor's insistence on not letting you be thesis only. If you were a science student "thesis only" would mean you weren't insured to work in the lab, but...

Sorry o.stoll. There IS an otto on the forum, just a bit confused. Sylvester, a bit of careful research will reveal the answer to the turkey question - hopefully you'll figure it out before Christmas! (what's 'that' called anyway? We see the smiley, but what's the word for the word we type? hmm.)

I just saw this article about chocolate today (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/7018055.stm), not that I need any convincing that chocolate is good! Also, I don't normally have a problem with feeding myself either Like I said, extreme circumstances. And see otto - we have a frown What smiley did you want? Some are secrets that you just gotta guess, like

Don't panic! You might have to sign up to paying full fees now, but I'm pretty sure you can get most of it refunded as soon as you start writing up. You can sign up for direct debit so the fees come out of your account in four installments (I think it was November, December, January, February in my case). Another thought is to register as a part time student - £10,000 is a bit scary whatever way you look at it. With part time registration the minimum number of hours you have to work is halved (to 20), but they can't really complain if you work say 39 hours a week so you don't qualify for full time fees. It'll be okay (or not as bad as you think anyway). Chill

Hello! I haven't joined the PGF Team or anything, just thought I'd say hi. It's been a while.

Aaaw oz, that's lovely Would you believe I haven't actually eaten anything since 6 this morning because I've been working so hard? That's totally atypical though - extreme circumstances today, had a deadline to meet. I win!

Yeah, let's have some positive thinking! We WILL finish sometime soon... I encourage myself by reminding myself that I do make at least a little bit of progress every day. I haven't come to a complete standstill.

I'm not a postdoc - and probably never will be (by choice)! Did I say something to make you think that?
I 've only been writing up for a few months - I chose to stay in the lab to try and get some last minute results. It kinda worked, so I don't regret it, even though I'm maybe paying for it now.

cc - you're my new best friend I'm trying to write up too, and am really struggling. In fact, I fell out with you a little bit when you said you were ready to print because I want that SO badly! I'm actually planning to submit by the end of September (the end of my fourth year too). I can totally empathise with what you said: "I set myself targets with writing up and I just can't reach them as each one takes longer than expected". I feel so stupid because each time I say 'I'll have that finished tomorrow' I actually believe it, and it NEVER happens. I can't relax until the thing's done, although that's the advice I would have given someone a few months ago, before I started writing up. I also agree with someone else who posted recently saying that they found writing as an undergrad. so much easier - maybe we're just out of practise or something.
