I thought Harry's answer was the expert's. But I know nothing about gravity waves, which makes me wonder - are the two answers correct? do they say the same thing? And does Harry's answer look more like the expert's, not because of content, but because he uses more formal language (e.g. 'detectable', 'bisects', 'planes' and 'angles' (mathematical language), 'signal' is also a generic scientific term, as is 'source'). Answer A seems much more casual to me, 'measure' and 'length', 'yes', 'in fact' - sounds like a physicist trying to explain the research to a layman, which he might in a situation like this...

Donkey did not seem to be aware of the cameras. He was searching for something. He would disappear from one screen only to reappear after a short time on another. Thomas was alarmed to find that the cameras covered a large part of the house and garden. He watched as the postman walked up his path and to the front door; Donkey retreated to the back of the house.

We're allowed eight weeks, including bank/statutory holidays (which there are 10 of, 12 at a push - Christmas, New Year, Easter, May and August holidays). General opinion is that this is too much! But in your first year I'd say go for it, take the whole eight.

ditto to kc. I used to tell my supervisor when I wouldn't be in, eventually worked out he couldn't care less, stopped telling him (and that's fine by him). He has also disappeared for days and weeks without telling us.
