Nerves at startinga PhD
S

I wish I could be nervous about starting the PhD. Things are so stressful and complicated at the moment that me actually making it there to start the PhD will be a relief!

New smileys are now available
S

When can I have my laughing smiley? A smiling smiley is no good!

Forms, documents, etc...

Good luck, especially with the British weather!

Things we miss...

Was thinking about this today listening to chunes from the early 1990s, and then I realised

Atlantic 252!

I used to love that radio station when Radio 1 became unlistenable. You could also get it just about everywhere. They also used to have some bizarrely named DJs

Sandy Beech, Robin Banks, Dusty Rhodes and Cliff Walker spring to mind.

I want it back, it was an important part of growing up!

What does everyone else miss?

What "Ch" unes have people got on today?
S

Having not posted for a week, you will all no doubt be fascinated to know that I have progressed from the "chunes" of 1991 and worked my way forward to 1995. So I is listening to the following delights today:

Boo Radleys - Wake Up Boo
Edwyn Collins - A Girl Like You
Pulp - Common People
Rednex - Cotton Eye Joe

Being Austrian (well, for today only) and naive, WTF is a mooncup?

Alton Towers any good?
S

Ditto DanB. Alton Towers still the biggest and the best. Do they still have that annoying music that is played out of flower beds wherever you walk in the park?

Awww, thanks DanB

I like these new smilies but we still need a laughing smiley 404!

Could God help us?
S

I'm a Unitarian so as far as I'm concerned people can worship (or not worship) in whatever way they please. My own take (and that of many Unitarians) is that I don't believe in the Trinity. Instead, I view Jesus not as the son of god but rather a very religious man whose Christian teachings and guidance I generally support. In fact a very similar stance to H insofaras religion can provide you with guidance and support in your life as and when you require it.

So to the question, can God help me? Maybe, maybe not (depending on whether you specifically believe in god). Religion, however, can because it provides a framework to guide you through life. Although as a Unitarian, I do reject religious doctrine which can drive some people to extreme actions. A bit too deep and meaningful for a Friday.

Thanks DanB, had a difficult and frankly stressful week involving people put spanners in the my plans to move. Things are still not sorted and more stress/trauma awaits.

On a lighter note, I personally think a Professorship in Personal Fitness Training is the way to go.

what should I wait for?
S

The topic for your dissertation is probably not that much of an issue to them. My feeling is that they are more interested in your research skills. So such things as how you planned your research, what problems you encountered and how you solved them, how you justify some of the assumptions, the conclusions you reached and lessons for the future. Effectively more about the process than the topic itself. That's my take anyway!

Plymouth interview and way to comunicate
S

I've had discussions with Plymouth in the past. I seemed to remember that they kept emailing me regarding the progress of my application. However, can't remember whether that was PG Admissions or the dept itself. Best to give them a ring.

Finally got a degree!

Well done Katq. Onwards and upwards, as someone once said!
