Or my personal favourite which I think comes from Airplane 2

Courtroom scene.

"Doctor, give me your impression of Ted Striker."
"Sorry, I don't do impressions. My training is in psychiatry."

Just as well you didn't see what was in the 2 other envelopes:

Wednesday's particularly question - supervisors
S

Just realised my original thread, WTF is "Wednesday's particularly question" supposed to mean?

My dealings with my main supervisor (I have 3) have been favourable - friendly, approachable guy and responds to my emails quickly. Let's hope we can take that relationship forward. Other than that, I need a desk I can hide under!

I wonder if they'll be showing this on long haul flights?

Sorry, got me thinking of the film they were watching on Airplane, where the plane crashes. Still my favourite comedy film of all time for the quantity and quality of jokes.

"This man needs a hospital!"
"A hospital? What is it?"
"It's a building full of sick people, but that's not important right now."

Hi Zara, I take it you get an email everytime there's a response. This was nominated as one of the best threads this year in the PGForum Oscars. Obviously you're long gone by now!

Thanks hillyg, this is good honest advice and leads to me to think I should set my stall out early when I arrive so that we build a working relationship from day one. Thanks very much.

Thanks everyone. The reason I asked is that I would quite like to have regularly scheduled meetings but didn't want to over do them. Once every couple of weeks sounds good to me, certainly no less than once a month. It's just a way for me to keep a disciplined approach and set targets. I did this last year on my dissertation and it kept things moving along nicely, so more of the same. I think they call this managing your manager!

Can anyone top this old classic. Certainly one of the best posted on here. I wonder how she's getting on these days?

Piglet, have a look at the web address provided by Zara higher this page. That should provide a definition.

Well two actually...

1) How often do you meet with your supervisor?
2) Are these regular, arranged meetings or do they tend to be on an ad hoc, issue-based basis?

Thanks team!

Any advice for those of us who are starting in September?

This is a fairly recent thread which talks a little about it.
